Phoning from home for Webb is really cool!

I've been phone canvassing from the Prince William headquarters for months but lately my work schedule has gotten so overwhelming that I've been unable to do the phone canvassing on the nights designated after commuting home from work. But the Webb from home canvassing is just about an hour long, from your home and it's in your district so you can also canvass for your Congressional Candidate. Please sign up now! You can do an hour a week or whatever, but please do this now because the election is very tight. I just now switched over a nice Republican lady to vote for Webb. All it takes is our conviction and the human touch. (I mentioned my brother at 19 going off to Vietnam, and stem cell research as well). I also convinced a Vienna man to look at what Andrew Hurst had to say about the Vienna tunnel. We all know why we are Democrats. We need to tell these people why. I know I'm probably annoying someone but just maybe you need to get off your butt!!

Hey, it's also in Cold Fusion!  My web programming language.  How cool to see Cold Fusion working for the good of humanity!

Would I have to call republicans? (SueBonnetSue - 10/23/2006 4:13:31 AM)
I thought I would only be calling democrats, gotv, and such. You were calling republicans.  Would I have to do that?  I do NOT want to call republicans and get yelled at by those goons.  Do you live in Vienna? Cool!  I live near there too.  But I only want to call democrats in my area, not republicans.

Thank you.

Yes you have to call some Republicans (demnan - 10/23/2006 9:27:27 AM)
Here's the deal though, even some of the Democrats you call can be rude.  I haven't found that by nature Republicans are more rude than Democrats (I hope I can say that here)  I've been calling for months, mostly in Prince William County where I live.  But I've also called people in Fairfax County.  There are a lot of Independents and Republican-leaning people out there who are very supportive of Jim Webb.  I think about 59% of Northern Virginian's are for Webb.  Actually that might be conservative.  The important thing is try not to whimp out!  It takes a lot of guts to do this, and if you just do an hour at a time, rather than the 2 1/2 hours I was doing at the Dale City Headquarters it seems easier.

The important thing is that you'll be proud of yourself afterward, and you'll know you made a positive effort to help your country.

Phone Banking Types (snolan - 10/23/2006 2:27:14 PM)
The call list changes based on the needs of each campaign and the time left before the election.

At this point, I suspect the calls are still to all registered voters - trying to assess who the likely Webb voters are.

At some point (and this is one of those great mysteries you apparently need a PolySci degree to figure out, because I never have figured it out) the phone banking switches to calling only known Democrats and get out the vote effort.  The calls are much more fun then, but generally that is right before the election (days).

I do not know as I have not been phone banking much for a while (did some in the early search for volunteers), as I find face-to-face and door-to-door time more appealing to me personally.  So I'll continue canvassing in person until a week before the election.

If you don't want to call Repugs, volunteer to stuff envelopes, or canvass in person, or coordinate volunteers until the phone-banking switches to "calling likely Democratic voters" in a short while (when is that exactly?).

Don't be afraid to talk to Republicans (demnan - 10/23/2006 5:42:14 PM)
All you have to do is state your beliefs (if you get the time)  You don't have to argue.  In fact, don't argue.  I keep it high minded and positive.  "I'm for Jim Webb, I think he will be a great Senator, he'll look after our armed forces"  "Andrew Hurst was endorsed by Governor Kaine as a leading legal authority on health care".

If they ask or urge issues, direct them to the websites, most times people (sadly) aren't interested.  If you can capture them with some positive energy, do so.
