Time to slam Allen as a flip-flopper!

Does anyone remember meet the press when Allen's response to the question about strategy in Iraq was, "we win, they lose."  And that we, "shouldn't cut and run."  He tried to slam Webb in that and subsequent debates for talking about ways to solve Iraq and change course.  Well now, he's saying the following:

But it is on Iraq that Allen is shifting his position and this shift is a reflection of what Republicans are doing across the country.

More below the fold!
"Progress in Iraq has been too slow," he says, and suddenly the conference room is silent. "We must adapt to dealing with the evolving challenges we face. The Iraqi people and the Iraqi Government need to show the spine and backbone and heart to take control of their own destiny. We have helped them and now they need to help themselves."

There is no standing ovation for this stuff. These people had been convinced by Bush and Allen that the war in Iraq was being won. Now Allen was clearly telling them the time was approaching for an exit strategy. And they didn't seem to like it."

Run an ad comparing Allen's statements from early September to now and call him what he is, an unprincipled "flip-flopper."  I think this would hurt him badly among his base and be great for Webb.

Thoughts??

There are going to be (lwumom - 10/20/2006 7:32:55 PM)
those 30-something percent of Republicans who will jump off the cliff if needed, but I think there are free-thinkers out there who will recognize the desperate attempts to grab votes and who will take these things to heart and vote accordingly.  Our country depends on it.

I agree, we have to call Allen out on this.

Agreed there should be an ad about this, but it should be presented with a shot of Allen scoffing at Webb's statements about a sit down with countries in the region, then with "Jim Webb has been right for four years about Iraq.  Now, days before the election, Allen is flip flopping and advocating a change of course from his change of course". Can they use the Fairfax Debate or Meet the Press footage?
