Republicans are Liars AND Homophobes

Listen to this piece of trash while bearing in mind that:

*Jim Webb is happily married and is a Christian who believes strongly in the institution of marriage.
*Jim Webb supports the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman
*Jim Webb supports EQUAL rights for ALL Americans, whatever their race, religion, ethnicity, income or sexual orientation.  Jim Webb does not support "special" rights on taxation, medical visitation rights, inheritance rights, or anything else.
*Jim Webb EPITOMIZES American values and Virginia values.  Jim Webb was awarded the Navy Cross and Silver Star, among other medals, for valor in combat. Jim Webb is truly an American hero.
*Jim Webb believes that the government shouldn't be poking its nose into our bedrooms for ANY reason unless there's some tremendous, overriding reason for it to do so.  George Allen, in contrast, thinks the government should tell us when to live and die and who we can love.
*Jim Webb - along with Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, and many legal experts - argues that the Marshall-Newman amendment is flawed for several reasons, including that it will take away rights from umamarried heterosexual Virginians.
*In addition, Jim Webb understands that "gay marriage" is ALREADY illegal in Virginia, so why amend Thomas Jefferson and George Mason's Constitution?
*Republicans like John McCain, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, John Sununu, Judd Gregg, Arlen Specter, and Lincoln Chafee all voted against the Federal "Marriage Amendment."

But what else would you expect from a Party that does nothing to defend marriage and family - for instance by ensuring that all children have a top-notch education and high-quality, affordable health care - yet play games with the Constitution in order to grub for votes?  Pitiful.

P.S.  Why on earth should we believe that a party with the, er, spotty track record on personal sexual morality of the (cough cough Mark Foley) Republican Party is the best defender of traditional Virginia values?

Since When (Mark - 10/20/2006 5:19:42 AM)
is hate a 'Virginia Value'? How about killing innocent men, women and children in Iraq? Is that a 'Virginia Value'?

Let's see....oh, I know. Allowing our soldiers to go to war without proper equipment and then make excuses for it for years while they STILL don't have the proper equipment? Is that a good ol' 'Virginia Value'? Deficit spending? Unchecked power in the executive?

Of course not. And I will be glad when Jim Webb takes the oath in the Capitol next January instead of Gasbag Allen. I plan on watching Al Weed do the very same thing.

i love webb... (chiefsjen - 10/20/2006 9:15:30 AM)
but i'm 100% against the 'marriage is between 1 man/1 woman' thing...

why can't he be FOR marriage being between 2 consenting adults that want to be committed to each other and to a family if they so choose.

Like a lot of other people (Catzmaw - 10/20/2006 12:28:08 PM)
Webb has a religiously based belief in what constitutes marriage.  In discussions with my friends who are gay and lesbian I have often suggested that being within their own community they sometimes forget how difficult it can be for others to change a centuries' old perception of marriage, that for most such folks it really is a sacred bond and inherently about a man leaving his father and mother and cleaving unto his wife (to quote the Bible).  If you accept the traditional Christian view that the purpose of marriage is procreation, you run into another problem in that a gay couple simply cannot procreate without engaging in some inventive alternatives to the usual way.

I think that the attitudes may change eventually, but it won't be this generation.  In the meantime, the impetus from the gay community should be to obtain the right to civil unions which will have the same effect as marriage.  Give it another name and you take a lot of the opprobrium out of it.

i'm an atheist...

i'm sorry religion is not enough of a basis to justify prejudice, bigotry, and hate towards a group of people just because some crazed lunatics wrote some blurbs about marriage over 2000 yrs ago...

they used that same argument to justify slavery, treating women as less than human, murder, torture, keeping interfaith/inter-racial marriages from happening too, nobody would say today except bigots/racists would argue that a black/white couple doesn't have the right to marry or a xian/jew or jew/muslim, or atheist/hindu, etc...

hell, they used the bible to kill people for saying the earth was round and not the center of the universe.

we are living in the 21st century, it is high time that religious and non-religious people agree that we are born who and how we are: gender, sexual orientation, color, our hair color, our eye color, etc. and it's time to move towards treating ALL humans the exact same way.

like i said, i love webb and i will fight the fight for him, but i'm tired of hearing this argument, it doesn't hold water.

me and my husband got married in a lawyer's office and it took about 5 min, why is our marriage any more recognized and relevant than 2 gay people that want to commit to each other?

When you call this "thing" trash you dishonor trash (Catzmaw - 10/20/2006 12:31:14 PM)
I couldn't believe the brazen lies on that tape.  It's unconscionable and manipulative and just outright nasty.  My ears feel soiled by this thing.  We should write to any station that runs it and protest in the strongest language.  Do you have any information about who's running it?  I'd be happy to dump on the station manager.
