Moderate Republicans Become Democrats in Kansas

There's a very interesting article in today's Washington Post about moderate Kansas Republicans jumping ship in droves to the Democratic Party.  Why is this happening?  According to Kansas newspaper publisher Steve Rose, it's because...

The Republican Party has changed, and it has changed monumentally. You almost cannot be a victorious traditional Republican candidate with mainstream values in Johnson County or in Kansas anymore.

Can't be a successful right-wing, religious extremist Republican in Kansas anymore?  My gosh, what next?  A former Republican turned Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from Virginia?  Ha.

Let's face it, Dubya Bush has a proven record of failure.

He ran an oil company into the ground
He failed as a baseball team owner
He completely screwed up our country (thanks a lot Dubya)

So it's only fitting that the Republicans who put him in power are now getting payback: Dubya's ruined the party that Ronnie built.

And may Dubya's failure cast a dark shadow over the Republican party for as many years as Reagan's light shined down upon it.

They wanted it.  They got it.  They deserve it.

The Democrats lost.  Had the party run a moderate candidate with personality (yes, that's very important--and they have to smile at the cameras), Bush would not have been elected and we wouldn't have this disaster on our hands.  Let's get to work and find a moderate Democrat who can WIN the White House in '08.  And BTW, Jim Webb could do a bit more smiling....

GO WEBB!
