Sunshine and Good News Galore

Yeah, we're obligated to talk and write about it, but I am so over slime to the point of getting cranky about it. If you are sick of it, too, group hug, and read on.

Speaking Out #1

Back in this diary I talked about General Gail Reals.  General Reals is a part of Marine Corps history, and according to this press release she has endorsed Jim Webb.  I wonder if Jim Webb has to remind himself that he doesn't have to stand at attention when he is around General Reals.

After retiring from the Corps, General Reals continued public service.  She served on the Virginia Commission on Family Violence Prevention, and she spoke out against Oliver North.

Thank you General Reals! OOOORRRAAAHHH

And that's not all!
Speaking Out #2

Last week our local paper mangled the title of an LTE.  It was supposed to be "Al Weed's Leadership."  Instead they printed some WTF title "Weed Leads in Wine."  Gordie took them to task about it in a follow-up LTE, they printed it and did indeed apologize in print.

Not only that, Nelson Dem Bernie McGinniss had a great LTE published this week supporting Jim Webb.

Thank you, Gordie. Bernie. Nelson County Times. You all rock!

Speaking Out #3

This Katrina diary is about George Allen's conflicts of interest and behavior after Katrina.  Yes, it's a tedious and painful read, but if you aren't familiar with how legislators end up beholden to corporate interests at the expense of their constituency, I hope you will force your self through it.  Or find better sources to your liking.

The good news is that Nov. 2-4, UVA is hosting its first Symposium on Race and Society.  The topic is "In Katrina's Wake: Racial Implications of the New Orleans Disaster."  Julian Bond will be speaking at this event.

And, yes, I'm attending!  I received the email a couple of weeks ago, and signed up right away.  What a sharp contrast Bill Harvey's words make when compared to George Allen's (holding back here...) miserable Katrina response.

We are confident that you will leave the symposium with a greater understanding of the complexities of that disaster, and hopefully you will develop some insight into how such situations can be prevented in the future.

Thank you, Bill Harvey.  And thank you, Julian Bond.

Good News #4

In this Garlic Festival diary I had a photo of sunshine the clown.  I was definitely getting cranky that day.  But here she is again! On the front page of the Nelson County Times.

Click on the picture to get a better look.

You'll see that Sunshine's dance partner, Richard Hanson, is wearing Webb and Weed stickers. I'm sorry but I have no idea what Sunshine's name is, or if she would even want it used.

Way to go Amherst Dems for getting those stickers out there!!
