Asian American Dinner for Tim Kaine

Finally got a chance to write about Monday night's Asian-American dinner for Tim Kaine at the China Garden Restaurant on Wilson Boulevard, which I was at thanks to the help of FCDC Diversity Chair Rose Chu. I popped out of the Rosslyn metro, ran up and down Wilson Boulevard in the blazing heat, and then my sweaty, tired body discovered that it was on the second floor of a building I had passed three times. Anyway, several dozen of the area's Asian-American Democrats gathered for a night of speeches and food.

*Bonus!* The Tim Kaine Song! Photos on the flip...

I came in just in time for the speeches, first was Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA-15), a Japanese-American who chairs the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. Our nominee for the #2 slot, Leslie Byrne, was up to speak next, and after that...

the man of the night, Tim Kaine.

45th District candidate David Englin and Del. Adam Ebbin turn around for a view of the podium. Also there was State Senator Patsy Ticer and Delegates Bob Hull and Vivian Watts.

Mike Honda, Tim Kaine, and Leslie Byrne share a word. Most likely in English, even though Honda and Kaine speak fluent Spanish (Honda from a stint in the Peace Corps, Kaine from a year as a missionary in Honduras).

All these years and I still can't escape the occasional glasses glare. It has to be on that picture.

Oh yes, and by the way, there was a Tim Kaine song played before he came up to speak, which I managed to capture a somewhat-comprehensible recording of. "I've had that song played for me three times and it still makes me blush," he said.

A song, you say? Sing along.

If you want someone with straight talk and strong values
You must go and vote: Tim Kaine
If you want someone with experience in leading
You must go and vote: Tim Kaine

Just listen to his message of expanding opportunity
His record of accomplishments is proof of his ability
How can we lose?
Our lives will be brighter then
Because he'll work to cut spending
And bring tax relief
So vote Tim Kaine, Virginia's next governor
Tim Kaine, he's our next governor
Tim Kaine, Virginia's next governor now

If you want someone who's committed for families
You must go and vote: Tim Kaine
If you want someone who'll improve health insurance
You must go and vote: Tim Kaine

Just listen to his message of support for education
And hear his plan to bring about much better job creation
How can we lose?
Our lives will be brighter then
He'll fix our traffic congestion
And keep our state clean
So vote Tim Kaine, Virginia's next governor
Tim Kaine, he's our next governor
Tim Kaine, Virginia's next governor now

I would suggest to the Kaine campaign to revamp it and get a bluegrass band to do it.  Maybe Fescue, or Ralph Stanley (a big supporter of all Democratic candidates).  A bluegrass version would certainly get southwest Virginia voters' attention!

Can we count on the Asians actually to vote i support of  all of TLC? Should there be follow-up and positive reinforcement?
