Feder and the Wolf

I hear that Democratic challenger Judy Feder rocked last night, and that long-time (as in, just about forever!) incumbent Frank Wolf (R-10)...well, did NOT rock.  Here's a report from a reader:

I just got back from the candidate forum in Great Falls tonight and Judy and Frank both spoke and she just blew him away.

First of all, there were Feder signs all over the place as you got there and a ton of Feder supporters in t-shirts but I didn't see a single Wolf sign at the event, nor a Wolf supporter.

He showed up at the last minute before he was scheduled to speak and gave one of the dullest political speeches I have ever heard.  If you didn't know any better, you'd think he was running for some sort of local office because all of the "accomplishments" he listed were local things- specific intersection improvements and taking a ton of credit for rail to dulles which still hasn't happened yet.  Not once did he mention a single national issue and he did not leave time for questions, just slipped off the stage and waited in the back while Judy spoke, then slipped out quietly as soon as she finished speaking.

Judy got a huge round of applause, both before and after, and gave a well-timed, well-organized speech laying out all her major issues and even addressing the Foley scandal, then still had time for a few questions at the end and handled them very well.  People seemed to nod off while Wolf spoke but they were spellbound for Judy.

Nice going, Mrs. Feder; I look forward to calling you "Congresswoman Feder" in just a few more weeks! :)

P.S.  Please do whatever you can to help Judy Feder defeat the Frank Wolf "in sheep's clothing," the phony "moderate."  A Feder win in Virginia's 10th Congressional District will represent a giant step in taking back the U.S. House of Representatives and turning our country around. Thanks.

P.S.  Feder calls for Wolf to "end silence on Foley."  Full statement on the "flip."

Feder Renews Call for Resignations Over Foley Affair

Feder Again Calls on Frank Wolf to End Silence on Foley

Sterling, VAGÇöDuring the first head-to-head showdown between Judy Feder and Frank Wolf in the eastern part of VirginiaGÇÖs 10th District, Feder renewed her call for the resignations of  Speaker Dennis Hastert, Republican National Campaign Committee Chair Tom Reynolds, and all other lawmakers who knew about the threat Tom Foley posed to children and did nothing. Almost two weeks after the scandal broke, she once again challenged Frank WolfGÇöwhose silence grows louder by the dayGÇöto follow the model of his colleague, Republican Rep. Tom Davis, and join her in the call.

Frank Wolf has GÇ£sunk so deep into the Republican Congress that he canGÇÖt even speak out when the congressional leaders he supportsGǪdecide that protecting their power is more important than the safety of the pages in their care,GÇ¥ Feder told attendees at the Great Falls CitizensGÇÖ Association CandidatesGÇÖ Forum Tuesday evening. Inviting Frank Wolf to join her in calling for holding senior Republicans accountable for their mishandling of the Foley affair, Feder said, GÇ£Silence is no longer an option. ItGÇÖs time to stand up and be counted.GÇ¥

Awesome news! (thaddaeus toad - 10/11/2006 8:11:18 AM)
It is no shock Judy wiped the floor with Frank.  What can the old man run on theses days, pedophilia?

Lowell-you should change the title to "Feder and the Wolf".  I mean Feder rhymes with Peter, and I think the allusion is to Tchaikowsky's symphony, right?

Good idea on the title. (Lowell - 10/11/2006 8:13:10 AM)
Thanks.

Prokofiev you fool. (thaddaeus toad - 10/11/2006 8:59:02 AM)
Prokofiev wrote the symphony, not Tchaikowsky.  I always mix up my Russian composers.

Great, now every time I hear Frank Wolf speak... (Loudoun County Dem - 10/11/2006 9:48:47 AM)
...I'll hear an oboe kinda like Charlie Bown's teacher (hopefully this won't be a problem after Nov. 7th)...

We were there... (Loudoun County Dem - 10/11/2006 10:28:19 AM)
Me, Mrs. LCD and 'lil LCD were at the candidates forum last night. There were literally 20+ Feder supporters in Feder t-shirts there passing out literature and cheering Judy on and the road side was carpeted with Feder signs. Several Feder supporters stood along Georgetown pike to hold signs and wave to rush hour commuters (many honks and thumbs up).

After the Great Falls community business (new building design for Commerce Bank - "I want it to look like a barn") the candidates each got 15 minutes (which could include questions at the candidates discretion).

First off was the surreal (or in this case sur-rail) experience that is Gail Parker. Actual question and answer - "What is your plan for getting us out of Iraq?" "Rail". She told us how hard it is to get on the ballot when you are an independent and how local communities should get more proactively involved in rail. Gail (obviously) took questions from the crowd. She seems very nice and very sincere and VERY focused (on rail).

Next was Frank(ing) Wolf, "I did this and I did that...". Not a word on the future. Actually brought up events that happened decades ago (Wolf Trap burning down, intersection and guard rail improvements on the GW Parkway), "I was the first Congressman to go to Darfur" (No word on Saipan which is an AMERICAN territory). Wolf also tried to lay the Tyson's Tunnel collapse (sorry, bad choice of words - derailment?) off on Governor Kaine claiming he told Kaine that he would support whatever the Governor chose (not a word on how he threatened to halt federal funding). Nothing on Foley/Hastert. NO QUESTIONS FROM THE CROWD!!! Frank, his wife, and an aide then stood in the back while Judy spoke like he had just finished his round in a rap showdown in 8 Mile. Tepid crowd response.

JUDY ROCKED THE HOUSE!!! She called on Hastert to resign and, looking directly at Wolf, called on Wolf to join her in calling for Hasterts resignation!!! She pointed out this republican congresses failures in foriegn policy, health care, education, job creation and protection, "The first thing I do in Congress is call for Rumsfeld to be removed and Bush present Congress with a plan to get us out of Iraq", and many more. "THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE WASHINGTON IS TO CHANGE THE POPLE WE SEND TO WASHINGTON!!!". HUGH APPLAUSE (during which Wolf and entourage literally stormed out). Judy took questions on Energy prices, Education costs, and Nuclear proliferation.

The other two candidates for the 10th CD spoke, Wilbur "Bill" Wood (Libertarian) told us that for too long we have had to decide between poached eggs (repugs) and scrambled eggs (Dems) and that we should try pancakes (him). Wood took questions (including the gem "How do we know you won't waffle?" - man I wish I had thought of that one...). Lastly came Neeraj Nigam (Independent) who talked about coming to America in 1989 and how we need to fix our problems now and "I want your vote not your money". Nigam took questions (Hmmm, which candidate was the only one to NOT take questions???) and it seemed that every answer was I agree with him or I agree with her.

The meeting was a little long but worth it as JUDY KICKED WOLF'S ARSE!!!

Another Feder/Wolf debate (Tink - 10/11/2006 10:32:57 AM)

There's another Feder/Wolf debate on Tuesday night, October 17th, at the Hyatt Dulles.  Should be good.

Is Frank Wolf ashamed of Mr. Bush (vote-left - 10/11/2006 9:56:16 PM)
Mr. Wolf's website no longer says he "fully supports President Bush."

Not True (Greg Bouchillon - 10/12/2006 3:09:02 PM)
He does mention Bush one single time:
Congressman Wolf has fought long and hard for lower taxes for the hard-working men and women of the 10th District. Congressman Wolf joined President Bush in his efforts to reduce income taxes and eliminate the marriage penalty and death tax. Congressman Wolf will continue to work for lower taxes so you can keep more of your hard-earned dollars to spend on the things you need.

Actually, you're right (Greg Bouchillon - 10/12/2006 3:11:57 PM)
It doesn't say exactly that, so, you're right. I wonder why he would leave that one mention of Bush. Is it possible that he's still trying to appeal to the hardcore righties?
