From the Webb campaign comes news of a nice endorsement for Jim...

VEA, AFT Officially Support Webb

(Richmond, Virginia) GÇô VirginiaGÇÖs two largest teachersGÇÖ organizations - the Virginia Education Association (VEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) GÇô today endorsed Jim Webb for United States Senate.

GÇ£We were pleased to receive a questionnaire back from Mr. Webb, and pleased to find that his responses to our questions reveal both his understanding of the issues facing our schools and his willingness to stand as a champion of public education,GÇ¥ said VEA President Princess Moss. GÇ£As Senator Allen did not respond to our questionnaire, we have only his record to serve as a determination of his fitness to continue to serve as VirginiaGÇÖs Senator.  His record is not a good one for our public schools.GÇ¥

The VEA, VirginiaGÇÖs branch of the National Education Association (NEA), represents 56,000 teachers and education support personnel in all 134 school divisions in Virginia.

Senator George Allen received an GÇ£FGÇ¥ on the NEA 109th Congressional report card, voting against the National Education Association (NEA) 75 percent of the time on GÇ£important legislation.GÇ¥

In addition to receiving the endorsement of the VEA, Webb also earned the endorsement of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), which represents 1.3 million teachers nationwide.

GÇ£IGÇÖm a product of public schools. My kids are a product of public schools, and I believe that the health of our schools and the quality of our education system determines the health of our society,GÇ¥ said Jim Webb. GÇ£I applaud the Virginia Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers for their effort in representing our teachers, and thank them for their endorsements.GÇ¥

By the way, can any of you imagine a group of educators actually endorsing the anti-intellectual, anti-science, anti-reading ("fiction," at least) George Allen?  Ha.

When Allen Was Guv He Was Pushing Vouchers (PM - 10/10/2006 2:41:39 PM)
Which is a big deal for the religious right.  The RR wants tax money to fund their schools (many of which are crappy).

Good for the teachers.  You will note that asshats like Norquist are very anti-teacher, insinuating they are overpaid.

I think teacherken is a teacher.  I come from a family of teachers.  You drive those Grand Ams into the ground, let me tell you.

AFT and VEA (Newport News Dem - 10/10/2006 3:58:18 PM)
were with Jim at our Peninsula JJ Gala on Saturday.

Can we take credit?????
