Thank you to the DSCC for this hard-hitting but totally factual ad; please send lots more where this one came from!!! :)
P.S.  I received the following e-mail from the DSCC:

I wanted to let you know that we're up on the air today with a television ad highlighting how George Allen voted against body armor for Iraq soldiers, took thousands from the oil and gas industry while voting to give the industry billions in tax breaks, and voted to raise his own pay even has he voted against raising the minimum wage.

You can watch the ad here:

We've put it up on YouTube (GoogleTube?), as well:

Finally! Good going DSCC. But God, the Iraq News Is So Depressing (PM - 10/10/2006 10:10:01 AM)
Another 60 Bodies Found in Baghdad
The Associated Press
Tuesday, October 10, 2006; 6:34 AM

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Authorities found the mutilated bodies of 60 men in Baghdad in the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, likely the latest victims of the sectarian death squads that roam the capital.

The bullet-riddled bodies all had their hands and feet bound and showed signs of torture _ hallmarks of death-squad killings, police 1st Lt. Mohamed Khayon said.

Do you think George Allen feels any emotion about those daily death tolls?

No (Alicia - 10/10/2006 10:27:50 AM)
I don't think Allen feels a thing.

He just uses the Gold Star mother who have him her son's dog tags so he can SAY he feels something - which is "stay the course"

Bastard

Have = Gave (Alicia - 10/10/2006 10:28:15 AM)
whoops

yeah cuz... (chiefsjen - 10/10/2006 1:34:18 PM)
george allen has to be GIVEN someone else's dog tags cuz he was too much of a PUSSY to go get his own!

while i wish webb had of said more about his military svc and that of his son's -- i see the major difference --

he doesn't use his for political gain, he doesn't use his son as a pawn to be moved on the political chess board -- allen was FOAMING AT THE MOUTH waiting to spew out that crap about some mother giving him her son's dog tags -- and what pray-tell is he going to do with them?

What Allen should do (Alicia - 10/10/2006 1:53:56 PM)
is remember the blood on his hands

each and every day

GREAT Ad by the way n/t (Alicia - 10/10/2006 10:29:55 AM)

GREAT AD!!!

I've read (DanG - 10/10/2006 10:41:16 AM)
I've read that this ad was given a $1,000,000 buy by the DSCC.  If that's true, we should be seeing a lot of it.

Saw it this morning (VA Breeze - 10/10/2006 10:43:17 AM)
during Ellen-Wanda Sykes (from Virginia!) was on. Target: Women!

Hot Stuff! (K - 10/10/2006 11:14:05 AM)
The DSCC has outdone itself on this. Great job!

Thank You--Great Ad (Barbara - 10/10/2006 11:46:09 AM)
I'm so happy to see the DSCC involved.  We can do this.

DSCC (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/10/2006 12:18:21 PM)
Man, is that needed. I watched the Debate last night and it was clear to me at least that Allen is trying to use focus group data and "knee jerk reaction" issues/keywords to derail Webb.

He also just plain lied in the debate so I would imagine a Max Cleland or John McCain level of smear/attack at this point.

I just hope VA is smarter than that.

Maybe a nice piece on unethical Rovian style campaign propaganda in the press.

There's also (mkfox - 10/10/2006 2:09:47 PM)
a new ad out from the Webb camp (I think it's new, this is the first I've seen of it!)

RE: Great ad (JPTERP - 10/10/2006 3:32:09 PM)
I like the new Webb campaign ad.  It's hard hitting, but ultimately positive.  The ad nicely uses the "here's the problem, here's the solution" frame.

As far as the DSCC ad goes, I'm glad to see that they're running something.  I would term this more the "apocalyptic kitchen sink ad".  If the purpose of the ad is just to make George Allen look repulsive it works--although the tone of the ad is a little too over the top for me.  If we're just talking about attack ads, I definitely prefer the minimalist, no-nonsense approach of the Vote Vets ad. Different target audience perhaps.
