Thousands of Enron employees and investors lost their life savings, children's college funds, and pensions when Enron collapsed. About 75% of its American political contributions went to the Republican Party, including heavy contributions to George W. Bush's presidential campaign.

We were all recently reminded of the fraudulent and corrupt actions of the corporate heads of Enron with the sentencing of former Chief Financial Office, Andrew Fastow to six years in prison. However, did you know that George Allen has accepted thousands of dollars from Enron? Did you know that despite the fact that thousands of Americans lost their jobs and life savings with the corrupt collapse of Enron, George Allen has refused to return the companyGÇÖs campaign contributions?

In spite of AllenGÇÖs failure to do the right thing by donating or otherwise separating himself from the dirty money he received from Enron he still ask us to trust himGǪnot me.

GÇ£In the public eye George Allen may criticize EnronGÇÖs GÇÿshamefulGÇÖ behavior, but since 1999, George Allen has accepted $7,000 from EnronGÇÖs PAC. In fact, the Allen campaign accepted contributions just months before the company collapsed leaving thousands of Americans without jobs and their life savings.GÇ¥ (Houston Chronicle, 2/13/2002; www.fec.gov; New York Times 9/27/2006)

GÇ£It is so hypocritical and yet typical of George Allen to publicly condemn GÇÿthe conscienceGÇÖ of the heads of Enron all the while privately accepting their money. This is a man of no principle. It is a disgrace that while so many Americans faced such personal and financial hardship as a result of this corruption, George Allen found a way to make a financial gain. George Allen should stop his double-talk and put EnronGÇÖs money where his mouth is. Allen should give his ill-gotten Enron money to former Enron employees who struggle to get by and fire any of his consultants who have helped Enron,GÇ¥ said Webb spokesperson Kristian Denny Todd.

George Allen still continues his affiliation with Enron today through his employment and donations from former Enron lobbyist and GÇ£hired gun,GÇ¥ Ed Gillespie. Just before its collapse, Enron GÇ£funneled money to a Gillespie-run group to buy national television ads promoting the presidentGÇÖs industry-friendly energy plan.GÇ¥ Gillespie is the head of George AllenGÇÖs Good Government for America PAC and was the host for a large fundraiser for Allen, which was headlined by President George W. Bush. (Public Citizen, Congress Watch 2003)
