Jim Webb's New Ad

By: Lowell
Published On: 10/3/2006 4:13:54 PM

...is available here.  It's an excellent ad, totally slams George Allen's slanderous nonsense.  I hope this thing plays all over Virginia!

[UPDATE:  According to the National Journal's Hotline:

Also 10/2, "Webb began his biggest ad purchase yet," spending $650K/week to air a 30-second spot statewide that features two retired military women rebutting an ad Allen aired last week" (AP, 10/3).

Nice.]

That Webb ad is awesome. (phriendlyjaime - 10/3/2006 4:23:57 PM)
Nice job. If you were a woman who was honestly undecided at this point and saw both his and Allen's in the same hour long show, you'd be like, "Why the hell did the guy with the gross teeth say all that nasty crap? That other guy makes a great point and he is much more handsome. It's also very true that it is easy to trash people, and harder to do things. I will vote for that nice man, Jim Webb."

11/8/06:
After Allen cries and refuses to concede and is then forced, the results will be 53% Webb, 47% Allen, 100% angered Allen staff, 100% broke ass Allen family.

Former Senators have the right to go on the floor of the Senate (thegools - 10/3/2006 4:29:02 PM)
for the rest of their lives.  Do you think that might be a bit valuable to a consulting/log=bbying firm?

Oh, I think Allen will be well paid whether or not he returns to the Senate.  In fact he might become even more rich as a former Senator.

I meant (thegools - 10/3/2006 4:29:36 PM)
lobbying firm (doh!)

Great Commercial (thegools - 10/3/2006 4:31:25 PM)
It needs to play statewide and often.

Jim webb exudes class.  Even this add shows it.  he takes the high road and looks shiny compared to his opponent.

A+++ (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/3/2006 4:41:32 PM)
Great job Webb campaign, bullseye!

Excellent Ad! (K - 10/3/2006 5:01:50 PM)
Now, will the campaign be able to get it all over Virginia television?

great ad.. (drmontoya - 10/3/2006 5:18:24 PM)
Jim Webb's going to provide real leadership in the Senate.

COMMENT HIDDEN (hrconservative - 10/3/2006 5:19:44 PM)

Man, they had 30 seconds! (thegools - 10/3/2006 5:49:04 PM)
They have a broad spectrum of people in that 30 seconds.  As said "it's easy to take shots at people ....."

waaaahhhh waaahhhh (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 10/3/2006 8:30:46 PM)
to Quote Jaime

If you look at the site, he has a number of Academy grad ladies on record supporting him. There have been over 2,500 graduated since they were first allowed, how many do you have to get on each side? Really, I hope your post comforts you in your cold, lonely night, but it just makes me feel sorry for you.

Jim Webb, American Hero, exudes class.

Reminds me of Kaine Replies (Doug in Mount Vernon - 10/3/2006 5:19:49 PM)
Last year Kaine replied to the death penalty ads VERY effectively.

I think we've got another homer here!

As for Allen... (phriendlyjaime - 10/3/2006 5:54:49 PM)
apparently, the address didn't really work.

So, $43K or $500K-a waste.

Excellent... He Shoots... (Loudoun County Dem - 10/3/2006 6:15:56 PM)
...He Scores!!!!

Great ad!! (summercat - 10/3/2006 6:20:58 PM)
Go Webb!!

The New Ad (Quizzical - 10/3/2006 6:43:17 PM)
Seems very well done -- has a positive, upbeat tone.  Refreshing.

Blanket coverage (kevinceckowski - 10/3/2006 6:46:55 PM)
would be the right and proper thing to do.

Very good, in fact excellent.

It needs a lot of play time.

Very nice ad (JennyE - 10/3/2006 6:52:20 PM)
Top-notch quality and it rebuts Allen's pitiful ad very well.

allens good luck (pvogel - 10/3/2006 7:07:54 PM)
Look under "foley"
it got allen off the front pages

How Pathetic.

I will call Nov 7 independance day, after we are rid of the filth and trash that  got elected 6 years ago.

OT: what is Jim Webb Jr.'s unit? (Nell - 10/3/2006 7:34:52 PM)
Can anyone here point me to what unit of the Marines Jimmy Webb is serving with?

Most of the reason I want to know is that former Marines at campaign events and at headquarters have asked, and I'd like to be able to get back to them.

The other reason is that the Iraq Casualty Count site today shows that five Marines have been killed in Iraq in the last three days, and their names have not yet been released (it often takes five to seven days). This is the kind of news that's a daily torment for people with family, friends, and neighbors serving. Our candidate shares that burden, as if the campaign trail weren't tough enough. I'm looking to reassure myself.

Call the campaign. (phriendlyjaime - 10/3/2006 8:07:40 PM)
I have no idea which one he is in, and whether or not they are making that public, so I would call them directly and find out.

Webbstah's myspace (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 10/3/2006 8:33:54 PM)
The whole family is getting ready to send him and the guys a care package.

http://blog.myspace....

I'd encourage everyone to do so. It's a personal choice, but they do like porn too (would naked lady cookies make the trip?)- that's my wife's question, not mine.

Excellent (Arlington Mike - 10/3/2006 8:14:43 PM)
Excellent ad.  Classy, able to hit at Allen without coming off as slimy or mean-spirited, shows some diversity, and clearly will appeal to female voters (who support Webb more strongly than Allen and who will be a critical part of this election as "security moms," those suburban voters concerned about both the bungled Iraq War and protecting ourselves).

I'd love to see some follow up with an ad that shares some of Webb's vision on economic issues, or goes after Allen for being in the pocket of big business by talking about Webb fighting for the little guy in Virginia, the middle class family.  This is a great start.

People are willing to listen in Virginia.  We just have to get our message out there.  And then do everything we can to bring Northern Virginia to the polls and try to make up the difference elsewhere.

Yes- very good for what it is, but still on Allen's terms??? (Arlington Tom - 10/3/2006 11:24:11 PM)
Would be great to see a combination of why vote for Webb, mixed with some very hard hitting "Is Allen really the best Va has to offer?" (A more sublte version of that add the young democrats created for the intenet featuring the gallows etc)

Said anothe way: I'd rather see Jim talking about the next few years and what to do about Iraq and the budget than talking about the naval academy. (Kind of reminds me of Kerry's democratic convention??)

In any event- It's GREAT to see Webb on TV.

Allen failed math class (Bubby - 10/4/2006 12:10:24 AM)
George Allen says that America can wage total war on Terror while giving Americans a tax rebate...Virginia deserves a Senator that can pass a math test.  Or an honest Senator. You decide on November 7.

Ad played in Roanoke tonight (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 10/3/2006 8:37:01 PM)
about two commercials after Allen's negative ad.

Wait, Allen specifically told us last night its only about the issues from here on out. Someone should probably call him to tell him they are playing his attack Webb ad down here still. Maybe they don't know?

Outstanding (norman swingvoter - 10/3/2006 8:59:22 PM)
I haven't seem it on cable yet in this area but this is an outstanding ad. I don't want to put too much into it but I have been observing signs while driving around my area. I live in a conservative area and thought I would be about the only one with Webb signs.  Not so.  There honestly aren't many compaign signs up for either candidate but Webb clearly outnumbers Allen.  A hopeful thing is that I have driven by a large number of homes with Cantor signs.  Most do NOT have Allen signs also so maybe there is a splintering of support going on.

I diaried this ad on daily kos... (Loudoun County Dem - 10/3/2006 9:24:01 PM)
...to spread it more widely.

Featured Brig. General in Webb Commercial (thegools - 10/3/2006 9:30:44 PM)
I am including the full text of a biography of Brig. General Clara L. Adams-Ender.  She is the woman featured first in the new Webb add.  She has several firsts in her bio as well as being a very impressive person.

Webb really scored a win by getting her

...she was already a military officer when Webb was still in high school.

(I don't know how to enclose this or highlight key parts, but if Lowell or anyone else can I welcome it.  This comes from http://www.blackseek...

The Bio:
Clara L. Adams-Ender was born in 1939 to a family of ten children. She rose through the Army Nurse Corps to the rank of Brigadier General.
Adams-Ender earned her nursing degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, then joined the US Army Nursing Corps and received a second lieutenants commission in 1961.

In 1967, she became the first female in the Army to qualify for and be awarded the Expert Field Medical Badge. Clara received an MS from the University of Minnesota in 1969 and a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the US Army Command and Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS in 1976.

She was the first woman to earn this degree. In 1982, Adams-Ender became the first black Army Nurse Corps officer to graduate from the U.S. Army War College.

She was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 1987 and appointed Chief of the Army Nurse Corps. Following this post, Clara served as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Military District of Washington until her retirement in August 1993.

Among the awards bestowed on Clara are the Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Army Commendation Medal.

Clara Adams-Ender is now the President and CEO of Caring About People with Enthusiasm (CAPE) Associates, Inc., a management consulting agency specializing in a broad spectrum of personnel and organizational management issues.

She also is a writer... (thegools - 10/3/2006 9:41:28 PM)
...she wrote the book:
"My Rise to the Stars: How a Sharecropper's Daughter Became an Army General"

Very impressive... (Loudoun County Dem - 10/3/2006 10:01:36 PM)
...Why, when all of these incredibly credentialed military leaders are coming out as Democrats (Jim Webb, Wes Clark, etc.), does the media still insist that the military is republican?

Produce it as a radio ad as well (elevandoski - 10/4/2006 7:18:03 AM)
I would suggest the Webb campaign also produce the ad somehow as a radio ad (put that great Tom Petty song in at the end).  There is a unique audience sitting in traffic in their cars and Allen's slime ad has been playing big time on the radio.  (Then again I don't watch much TV but I do sit in my car alot.)
