Accent v. Effeminacy

Just noticed here that Republicans were doing more than displaying Kilgore signs today at Tim Kaine?s Official Announcement in Wise, Virginia.  Apparently, they were in the same building and prepared to spin whatever Kaine had to say.

Flanked by other Republicans following the Kaine campaign function in the student center lobby, Wise County Commonwealth's Attorney Chad Dotson told reporters Kaine was "supposed to come to Southwest Virginia to be someone he is not."

He said the Kaine campaign has "made fun of the way we talk," or more specifically poked fun at Kilgore's accent, "and consistently showed he is out of step with Southwest Virginia values."

To be fair, I have been hearing these arguments for the last month or so alleging Kaine and his supporters are attacking the Southwest Virginian accent.  The important point to distinguish is that no one except the Republicans has said anything about Kilgore?s accent.

However, several people have noticed that he speaks effeminately.  Thus, these people are examining an entirely separate characteristic of his voice.

Frankly, I have never really thought much about it or cared how he sounds, but they need to be defensive about the correct issues.

Kaine got my interes (Rickey Hundley - 4/4/2006 11:25:53 PM)
Kaine got my interest when he talked about his faith, but lost me when he referred to his religion.  YOU see Christianity is not a religion.  Its a personal belief in a living GOD who wants to live and reign in each of our lives.  To Him every life is precious and to support any law like Roe VS wade goes against everything our Lord stands for.  I am poor if you consider an income class and i would probably be a democrat if it was for the fact of their constant push for anti Godly views like abortion and Gays.  So again as i looked up Tim's beliefs, i see but another smoke screen to use religious beliefs as a way to disguise ones true heart. If he is a practioning catholic...it wont hold water in virgina if he isnt practicing what he's support to be preaching. Thats why Bush won.

It's not how Kigore (Heavy Duty - 4/4/2006 11:25:53 PM)
It's not how Kigore says it, it's what he says that we don't like.
