No matter what you think of Hillary Clinton, this is a a GREAT speech.  Now, if we only had a few more leaders on Capitol Hill with backbone, people like Jim Webb, we might be able to get back to the high standards that George Washington - quoted by Senator Clinton in her speech - set for our country.

Decent speech by Hillary... (bladerunner - 9/29/2006 3:04:54 PM)
I am not a big Hillary fan, but she did have good logical points in her speech. She's doing a great job in New York state. May she continue in New York state for many years to come!

And who has Intestinal Fortitude here? (Teddy - 9/29/2006 3:47:08 PM)
Not most of the men, that's for sure. Maybe that is why she scares so many people. The only thing wrong with Hillary, after listening to this speech, is her gender. That's what bothered the contemporaries of Joan of Arc and Elizabeth the First, remember.

I never was especially fond of Senator Clinton in the past, but I have to say she is earning my respect more every day. She does her homework, as they say; she has the brilliant brain of a generalist, she takes care of her people, and she clearly has courage both physical and moral. Where was the brave and versatile male speaker against this abomination of a Torture Bill which kills the Great Writ of Magna Carta after seven hundred and ninety=one years... Absent Without Leave, that's where.

I really don't think that's true (gender) (beachmom - 9/29/2006 5:32:24 PM)
I like Hillary Clinton as a senator, and thought this was a good speech, but I found Patrick Leahy's oratory the best of the day, and John Kerry's not far behind.  But I am thankful to Mrs. Clinton for standing up against torture.

Kennedy's speech right before Clinton's... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/29/2006 5:52:28 PM)
...was good too, he pointed out that we executed or sentenced to years of hard labor Japanese soldiers after WWII when they were found guilty of using the exact same 'techniques' that we just legalized...

why!?!?!? (drmontoya - 9/29/2006 4:20:31 PM)
does she make speeches like this. I am clark/warner or warner/clark already. Why is she making this tough on me!!!!!

thanks hillary, finally you get a backbone and now I may have to reconsider my support for 08

Democrats are not perfect (Newport News Dem - 9/29/2006 4:39:35 PM)
hence losing a handful on the vote.

We will always have a chance to convince a democrat of their error. Talking to a republican is like talking to a brick wall as they are that thick and incapable of reason. The GOP disgusts me to no end. The party of racists, homophobes, corporate whores and hypocrites. Now they are the party of torture, turning their backs on all things that made America great! Hell, they are turning their backs on what made the Barons at Runnymede great!

DR.....you can't have my sig line!
