Allen's "Signal to Noise" Ratio

Courtesy of Virginia Centrist, the following highly perceptive comment refers to the Allen campaign's strategy of spending all their money to try and smear Jim Webb (see the fabricated, absurd story about Jim Webb and Watts), while distracting people from the main criticism against George Allen (that he's been a lousy Senator, that he has a long history of bullying and racial, uh, insensititivy (to put it mildly).  Here's the comment:

It's all about signal to noise.

The more they throw this crap up, the more they create general confusion among the electorate. They know this.

Plus of course, they're attacking one of the stronger demographics Webb claims now - women.

That's right, throw out shrapnel, "red herrings," smokescreens, and any other metaphors/cliches you can think of.  Employ the classic, Rove-ian tactic of turning your opponent's strength (e.g., Webb's popularity among women voters) into a weakness.  And generall, stay away from your own weaknesses, like your pathetic recrod of (non) accomplishment in the US Senate.  Nice strategy, except for one thing: it is NOT, as Allen promised the voters of Virginia, a positive campaign on the issues.  Oh well, another broken promise by George Allen; what else is new?
