Introducing Empowering Veterans

Ralph Parrott, Captain, Supply Corps, US Navy (retired)

My name is Ralph Parrott.  I am a 65 year old retired Navy Supply Corps Captain and retired businessman from Fairfax Station, Virginia.  I served in the US Navy from March 1963 until September of 1990, over 27 years.

I make no claim of being a war hero.  My service in the Viet Nam war consisted of two Tonkin Gulf deployments in USS Intrepid CVS-11 in 1967 and 1968.  As a Supply Corps officer I served in a support role.  But unlike our President, Vice President and most of their neoconservative fellow travelers, I served.

I have been drawn to political activism by the realization that my generation is failing in its obligation to leave this country to future generations in better shape than we found it.  We are failing, I believe, because we have failed to incorporate the bitter lessons of Viet Nam into our national life and our national strategy.

Over the next several days I will be posting materials that will explain why I believe that the Republican Party has forfeited its right to govern, with particular implications for the Webb-Allen race in VA.  Read on for a preview...

***********************

The parallels between Viet Nam and the current disaster in Iraq are astounding despite the Bush AdministrationG侵s apologists claims to the contrary:

G求 War waged on false premises
G求 Flawed strategy due to lack of knowledge and appreciation the culture
G求 Lack of shared sacrifice on the part of the wealthy and elites
G求 Compliant G牵Rubber StampG钎 Congress
G求 Erosion of civil liberties
G求 Failing to provide returning veterans proper care and support
G求 G牵Hollowing OutG钎 of the Armed Forces
G求 No accountability for failure

In the coming days and weeks, with the help of fellow veterans and colleagues I will be posting more on how the Bush administrationG侵s policies are adversely affecting the Armed Forces, members of the Armed Forces and their families and veterans and their families.  I will apologize in advance if I trample upon the norms and mores of the blogosphere.  I can assure you any digressions are purely out of the ignorance of a G牵geezerG钎.

I will also make the case that George Allen has been complicit in these policies by his G牵rubber stampG钎 votes in support of the Bush Administration.  I have set up a PAC named Empowering Veterans to support Democratic veterans against incumbent Republicans in Senate and House elections across the country for the foreseeable future. Our primary target race for this election cycle is the Jim Webb / George Allen race in Virginia.  Empowering Veterans is supporting Jim Webb in every way that we can.

Soon the Empowering Veterans website will get launched and I will post the link to it for you to take full advantage of our research.

Two quick points about Viet Nam:

1.  Lies got us into Viet Nam.
