NYTimes: New Allegation of Racial Slurs Used By Allen Against Redskins Football Player

The New York Times has found another person alleging that George Allen used a racial slur, this time against a Redskins football player:

Mrs. Hawkins, who described herself as a rural Virginia housewife and an active Democrat, said in an interview Tuesday that she heard Mr. Allen use the slur repeatedly at a party on election night in 1976. She said Mr. Allen used the term while deprecating the intelligence of the black players on the Washington Redskins football team, which Mr. AllenGÇÖs father coached. Recalling remarks about its star running back, Larry Brown, Mrs. Hawkins said that Mr. Allen GÇ£started in effect bad-mouthing him, saying what a shiftless you-know-whatGÇ¥ he was.

She said she remembered the conversation because she was a big fan of the team and was shocked. She said Mr. AllenGÇÖs statement on Monday was GÇ£just plain a lie.GÇ¥

How many more can there be?  I hope reporters are at least following up on this verifiable claim from a commenter on Salon reported by Not Larry Sabato:

For Homecoming 1967 he was saying in football practice the day before, N's going to paint the school tonight, I just know it. Sure enough, next day school painted with slurs aimed against whites (guess the ethnicity of the school we played, they won handily by the way!). He was originally expelled but reduced to suspension with agreement to pay to paint over the school. I've heard him speak N word many times in High School. Shelton is right this guy doesn't deserve to hold elected office. Ask the 1500 or so students, faculty, parents who were in Palos Verdes in 1969. I've made this post many places and waiting for media to contact me. I can verify this story with hundreds of people including his football coach at the time. I saw Coach recently at the store and we talked about the Homecoming incident. -- thezudes

I hope someone is making those phone calls...

I think more will come out (PM - 9/27/2006 8:09:14 AM)
Yesterday I figured out who the woman was on Kos who said Allen had spit at her, based on deliberate clues she left.  I'll wait for her identity to be revealed by herself, for privacy reasons.  Her letter sent to the Smyth County newspaper should be out this week.

Sabato said in an e-mail to The Associated Press that he didn't personally hear Allen say the n-word but went on to say that his conclusion is based on "very credible testimony."http://www.wdbj7.com...

A George Mason Government prof, Colleen Shogan, said this to the Times Community paper about Allen:http://www.timescomm...

"Where I think Allen will have problems is in the outer suburbs of Northern Virginia," she said. "Independent or Republican-leaning voters who say they like his stance on the war or on taxes but don't necessarily want to elect someone who may have harbored racist thoughts in the past or has a problem with having Jewish ancestry may look at Jim Webb and say, 'He's not a liberal, he served in the Reagan administration, so I'll just vote for him,'" she said.

If Allen is re-elected this fall, Shogan predicts any aspirations of running for president have pretty much been doused.

"All these things put together paint an unfavorable portrait of Sen. Allen," she said.

"Republicans will look at him and say, 'When he was in a close national race, he didn't play well under pressure.'"

Allen has the same problem that Custer had... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/27/2006 11:40:17 AM)

The Allen Campaign Is Screwing Up Once Again (PM - 9/27/2006 8:17:30 AM)
They're doing it again, folks, changing their stories.  Haven't they ever heard of the old political slogan, "Don't change explanations in mid-stream?"

When the story from Prof. Taylor about the n-word came out, La Civita said:

Christopher LaCivita, an Allen strategist, said the senator "has never heard of [Taylor]. This guy is not credible."
http://seattletimes....

But the more recent explanation has the first Mrs. Allen saying she did know Taylor, while denying George would use the word.http://home.hamptonr...

The Allen camp released a statement from Allen's first wife refuting Taylor's story. Anne Waddell, who was married to Allen from 1980 to 1984, said she recalled Taylor coming to their home to buy a puppy.

"I can say with absolute certainty that his recollection that George said anything at all that could be considered racially insensitive is completely false," she said. "He would never utter such a word."

Waddell said, "I was the one who fished for the turtles in our pond because they were eating the young goslings. The person who ate the turtles was our neighbor."

She says their neighbor ate the turtles (George Allen's Noose - 9/28/2006 2:12:40 PM)
She does not say whether their neighbor might have been black.

Also: "He would never utter such a word." That is the biggest load of bs I've ever heard. Newsflash Anne! Macaca IS SUCH A WORD!

More Hints from Sabato (PM - 9/27/2006 9:21:26 AM)
Larry Sabato is quite willing to corroborate Shelton's story but can only do so second-hand.

"I'm confident in the reliable sources who have contacted me," said Sabato, a political scientist at the University of Virginia and Allen's classmate. "These are members of the Class of '74 I've heard from over the past several weeks."

is anyone really suprised? it's George Macaca Allen for christ sake!

or course he's a racist. what's really suprising is why all of these people waited until now to come out..

and even more interesting.. I know there has to be more people who know about Allen's racist past.. where are they?

Oh. They got nice checks from Dick Wadhams.

And by the way.. Dick. I know your reading this blog.
