Fantastic (VA Breeze - 9/25/2006 12:20:30 PM)
Virginia and our country need Jim Webb-so let's get out there to work and make it happen-Our kids will thank us!

Absolutely AWESOME!!! (Loudoun County Dem - 9/25/2006 12:21:35 PM)
We need to make sure that as many Virginian voters as possible see this video...

The death eaters freepers will be apoplectic when they hear the words written by Jim Webb come from the mouth of Reagan.

Best video ever. (phriendlyjaime - 9/25/2006 12:24:16 PM)
Superb work, all.

Pass me the kleenex n/t (Mark - 9/25/2006 4:10:36 PM)
Very well done.

Leadership We Can Trust (Different Drum - 9/25/2006 12:29:28 PM)
Great stuff, very similar to a video done for Wes Clark during his primary campaign. Will there be a version of this seeing airplay?  And is there a downloadable HQ copy?

Hmm... (doctormatt06 - 9/25/2006 12:30:09 PM)
That was a very emotional ad, the whole thing about his dad getting a degree was almost tear-worthy.  I wish we could afford to put these kind of ads on tv, because that was just spectacular.

Indeed (Bubby - 9/25/2006 12:52:14 PM)
I was in the room (Roanoke) when he told that story about his dad. And you are right, it brought a lump to my throat (and others I'm sure).  A powerful message of hope and perseverance.

...and opportunity... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/25/2006 12:57:46 PM)
Hope and perseverance are factors that we can control, opportunity is a factor that the present single party government is rapidly eliminating for those who are not born to it.

This is the Democratic message that is finally being voiced more powerfully by, among others, Jim Webb and John Edwards.

Great video! (DanG - 9/25/2006 12:34:57 PM)
This is the greatest single campaign video I've ever seen. Yes, better than Clark's.  Make sure everybody sees this.

One word: POWERFUL! (Bobby - 9/25/2006 12:48:17 PM)
It really choked me up.  The best thing about this ad is it really could be edited down to get it on TV.  It really blew me away, just amazing.  E-mail this to everyone you know that might be on the fence, because I don't know how someone could watch this video and not at the very least consider voting for Webb.

My hands are shaking writing this.  The kind of leader I've been waiting my entire life for and this video shows him perfectly.

wow. (drmontoya - 9/25/2006 1:28:42 PM)
I cried. Jim will always be my hero.

Sometimes, I wonder why we can't find more leaders like him in this country.

It saddens me, we need Jim now in the Senate.

We need more like him, I pray to god every night that we find more leaders or more leaders find us now that we need them more than ever.

Thinking about my daughter to be born early next year, this is why I care so much about this race, and about our future.

I have a responsibility.

And so does everyone else in this country, I hope they come out and support, vote, and work for Jim Webb.

I was at the Grisham/King fundraiser (CrellMosetArisen - 9/25/2006 1:55:52 PM)
last night, and they played this to wrap things up.  It got a standing ovation and cheers from everyone in the room (including the entire Dave Matthews Band, who are all very nice).  A fantastic ad.

My boyfriend Dave was there? (phriendlyjaime - 9/25/2006 2:00:57 PM)
Dammit.

Oh, and Thadd knows, he is totally cool with it.  It's Dave, for chrissakes.

In all seriousness, it would be interesting to hear Dave's thoughts on Allen's hatred of his background, considering Dave is South African.

Any chance Dave Matthews will do a fundraiser? (phriendlyjaime - 9/25/2006 2:02:01 PM)
That would be HUGE.

Hey, the Webb campaign should try to find out (JennyE - 9/25/2006 2:41:44 PM)
You never know. They should ask the Dave Matthews band to do a fundraiser for Webb. It never hurts to ask or in this case 'beg'. That would be a financial boon for the Webb campaign if he accepts.

Dave Matthews.. (drmontoya - 9/25/2006 3:04:15 PM)
I have contacted his manager before about a possible endorsement, but she said a month or so ago that he would stay neutral.

but if he attended the Webb event.

My guess he's no longer in that position.

So, I contacted his manager again. And working something.. more to follow..

Dave Mathews Band (Mark - 9/25/2006 4:09:28 PM)
contributed a couple of tickets to Al Weed's campaign to auction off.

If I was rich, and not near my limit, I would have been going to that concert.

Here's A "Classy" Republican Attack In A Congressional Race (PM - 9/25/2006 2:27:46 PM)
Naperville%20Ribfest%20Edit

IL-06: Peter Roskam accused Dem opponent Tammy Duckworth (seen here on the right) of wanting to "cut and run" from Iraq during a debate. The use of this common GOP talking-point was interesting to say the least.  The veteran Duckworth lost both of her legs in Iraq. Duckworth's response: "I just could not believe he would say that to me." http://electioncentr...

Allen says "tuck tail and run" -- must be California surfer talk as I've never heard it expressed that way.

Webb should say in the last debate: "How dare you say that George.  You never placed your body on the line."

Good stuff (bladerunner - 9/25/2006 3:05:58 PM)
This is very well done. I wonder how many lies the Felix "Swiftboat" Allen camp will have to dig up to try to counter this great piece??

RealClearPolitics.com (Arlington Tom - 9/25/2006 4:37:29 PM)
From the republican centric RealClearPolitics.com. Note that Virginia has been moved to "toss-up" in the senate races section.  (It was likely Republican, and most recently leaning Republican.)Read more at http://www.realclear...

Plus an interesting blog entry from RealClear on how the race has changed and what Allen should do now:

George Allen is in Trouble"
Posted by JOHN MCINTYRE

That was very well done. (thegools - 9/25/2006 4:38:44 PM)
The key is getting people to see it either voluntarily in full length or by accident on TV [or as a Web(b) add]

LA Times article (Jon-P - 9/25/2006 4:54:50 PM)
http://www.latimes.c...

Great Article about how Congress and the White House are underfunding the Pentagon, and how we are amassing this huge debt in equipment that needs repairing.

Money quote as far as I am concerned:

"Schoomaker expressed concern about recent White House budget moves, such as the decision in May to use $1.9 billion out of the most recent emergency spending bill for border security, including deployment of 6,000 National Guard troops at the Mexican border."

By the way, that "emergency spending bill" was money meant for Iraq.

Mack (kevinceckowski - 9/25/2006 5:38:05 PM)
got a loud hip hip hooorah from one and all at the event last night.

What a special night and a super video.

I think, as I said in an earlier that this video HAS GOT to be duplicated and sent to SW Va ASAP.  No question about it.  I will personally burn 3,000 if I have to and won't even bat an eye.

Ok - my eyes are puffy! (totallynext - 9/25/2006 6:31:38 PM)
Of course I cry at a drop of a hat.  But I also cry at the singing of the National Anthem.

Because there is a difference between patriotism and war mongering.  Send money - run this message

Loved it! (libra - 9/25/2006 8:09:20 PM)
But...

As a foreigner, I tend to pay attention both to the sound and to how the lips move (if at all possible; that's one of the reasons I don't like the phone) -- it helps me understand what's said.

I notced something that most of you probably wouldn't have: there seems to be something slightly "off" between the sound and the vision. I couldn't quite figure out whether the sound came a split second ahead of the lip movement forming that sound or the other way 'round, but the coordination wasn't perfect. It was a bit like watching a dubbed film.

it might be something to do with how my puter received it but, in case it's not... Is there anything that can be done to fix it? Not only did this dissonance make it harder for me to follow what carious people were saying, but also it made their words less convincng, somehow.

PS. It's a great song; we should hear it more often...

Agreed (DukieDem - 9/26/2006 12:33:52 AM)
Don't worry, many of us noticed it too. It's a problem I frequently have with videos on youtube; anyone know how to correct it?

you're right anout the sound..... but it is caused by Youtube (Used2Bneutral - 9/26/2006 8:56:55 AM)
The encoding process for the web requires that the sound and video to be separated and they can take slightly different paths through the display software in terms of buffers.... this causes a slight shift sometimes... it's most noticeable effect when it happens is on facial speech.... anything else and you don't see the 20th of a second or so that gets injected in the path.... not much to do about it with Youtube, it's because of the way they do it.... you won't have this problem on a real DVD or an "Off-line" copy usually at all....

The Youtube of Judy's new TV spot is even more noticeable .. her's is running about double the difference of the Webb movie or so it seems.....

Great Footage (jackiehva - 9/26/2006 7:41:46 AM)
This is great!  Why doesn't Jim's campaign use some of this footage in TV ads rather than the current (Ronald Reagan) ad the Allen camp is bashing in their ads?  I know TV ads are very costly but we must make sure Jim wins this Senate seat.

I think you answered your own question. (Lowell - 9/26/2006 8:05:26 AM)
TV ads are very costly.  Wanna see more of 'em?  Give generously to the Webb campaign, and urge everyone you know to do the same.  Thanks!

Good point Lowell (Bubby - 9/26/2006 8:55:32 AM)
I'm logging off for a few hours, make some money on a little project and donate it all to Jim.  Lets push this thing over the edge!

We need to combine this presentation and burn DVD's (Used2Bneutral - 9/26/2006 9:39:29 AM)
we can put copies of Jim's first TV spot and some his best speeches on the extra space on DVDs and distribute them freely.... I have been doing this all over Northern Virginia and it costs me as much to print the label as it does to burn the disc..... not counting the 5-6 minutes to burn the copy of the DVD on my computer the cost is about 50 cents a disc and another ten cents for the paper envelope... those bracelets they gave out during some campaigns last year ran as much as $1.50, so $.60 isn't much... We may be able to get someone to mass duplicate them, but they will still cost around a $1 and then mailing or hand delivery to get them out selectively.

The TV time to show this new clip is going to be extremely expensive because of it's length.... we need something harder hitting in 30 second and sub-one-minute sizes...

Also we need to get this on the Public access TV stations all over the state on political discussion shows.... combine this with a copy of the original TV spot and even a discussion of the lies in the attack ad from Allen and you can have almost a full half hour TV show. When you throw in some of Webb's recent speechs from the Rallys and maybe an interview with Jim on the hard issues... we can put a whole hour show in the can to distribute state-wide essentially for free and get it run dozens of times in early October. Including at our meetings and house parties etc.....

Videos (Teddy - 9/26/2006 5:11:49 PM)
Thank you. I've been begging since during the primary for DVDs or videos of Jim to use at meetings, house parties, coffees etc, and suggested just using clips of interviews and speeches--- no need to make a federal case out of it. The video is always "coming" but never arrives. So, how do you propose to implement your suggestion, Used2Bneutral?

Sure wish my IPOD had video (KathyinBlacksburg - 9/26/2006 7:38:58 PM)
Sure wish I had bought a video IPOD or MP3 player.  This ad would come in very handy while canvassing.  Not everyone would have the time to view it, of course.  But we could get the video really far if everyone with video on an MP# player downloaded it and carried it around!

But we can at least show it to our neighbors... And at Democratic events.
