Washington Times article nails Allen's big problem

Remember when I was talking about being sick of Allen?  Part of it was because he has shown no leadership as a Senator.  No record that would call for reelection.  NONE.  And, lo and behold, along comes the Washington Times to confirm this:

Allen struggles to alter message
http://washingtontim...

From the article, here's what some fellow Republicans had to say about George Allen's path to victory:

"Still, Mr. Gilmore thinks Mr. Allen will win re-election if he can keep the conversation focused on the successful conservative record he built as governor in the 1990s, such as abolishing parole, reforming the welfare system and creating educational standards that have received national accolades....

Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform said Mr. Allen should run on the fiscal conservatism that helped him gain record popularity as governor."

Wow, doesn't that speak volumes.  Former governor Gilmore and Mr. Norquist do NOT say that Allen will win his SENATE race if he focuses on his record as a SENATOR.  No, it's if he focuses on his record from a decade ago.  You see, these conservatives sees what I see - that SENATOR Allen's record as a SENATOR stinks.  And focusing on THAT record won't get him reelected.  Nor should it.

Another Webb Republican missive.  Thank you for hosting this message.

Looking Forward to Repub Post-Salon.com Spin (bb10 - 9/25/2006 10:18:09 AM)
The "Washington Times" piece was written before the Salon.com piece came out. It'll sure be fun to read the Republican spin over the next couple of days.

And, thanks for reading the "Wash. Times," so that we don't have to. You're a brave man.

Thank you-- (Leaves on the Current - 9/25/2006 11:06:42 AM)

At the Charlottesville events yesterday, Jim Webb repeated his admiration for Chuck Hagel, among other current senators; and noted that he is looking forward to working with him  (I agree with him about Sen. Hagel.)

Unimpaired by blind partisanship, Jim will be a first-rate senator for all Virginians.  Good for you for recognizing that, and having the courage to put it on the record!

Nowhere else to put this (PM - 9/25/2006 12:10:57 PM)
