Webb on Hardball

By: TurnVirginiaBlue

Webb was just on Hardball where he said all of the press on Allen's ethnicity is *not relevant*, refused to answer questions on it and got Matthews to ask an intelligent question on national security and foreign policy and the mistakes on Iraq.

Frankly, it was a great segment which once again shows that Webb is going to be one hell of a great Senator.  He took yet another "Terry Shiavo", lowest common denominator, story to focus on the real issues, which is this country is in terrible trouble and Allen is part of the reason!
If you can catch the rerun the interview is on the last 20 minutes.  It's so good it should be You Tubed.

Update:  It's on NBC national news and the stream,
http://www.msnbc.msn...
is here.

I wrote this immediately after the interview with a "wow, now there is some straight talk and getting the focus back on..."
but the stream wasn't there.

Explorer (Greg - 9/20/2006 7:48:42 PM)
MSNBC is a Miscrosoft-affiliated company, so it's not Firefox-friendly. When I went and tried the link in Internet Explorer, it worked.

Requires Windows Media. (loboforestal - 9/20/2006 8:22:51 PM)
So, yeah, it's Microsoft specific.  Sadly.

Good Interview (Bubby - 9/20/2006 6:52:13 PM)
Thats our guy. A contrast in discipline.  Go watch the video and judge for yourself.

Ouch look at the link now (FredFred - 9/20/2006 9:47:43 PM)
Big picture of Secretary Webb

Headline: "This is Absurd"

Tag beneath it:  "Sept. 20: Jim Webb responds to claims he is running an anti-Semitic campaign in Virginia's Senate race. • WATCH VIDEO"

Dang - I don't like the sound of that.

I thought Jim was at his best (Nick Stump - 9/20/2006 10:58:36 PM)
This is the real Jim Webb.  I thought he handled Chris Matthews very well.  Jim never grabbed the bait Matthews kept dangling out there.  He made it plain he didn't suffer fools or foolish common questions.  It's rare to see someone take control of a Chris Matthews interview, but tonight I thought Jim was in charge though the whole segment.  Just terrific.

Hardball Rebroadcast 3AM-4AM (loboforestal - 9/20/2006 8:25:49 PM)
For nightowls and Tivo owners.

This is on NBC national news tonight (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 9/20/2006 6:46:59 PM)
It's pretty surprising

the actual interview? n/t (TurnVirginiaBlue - 9/20/2006 6:53:32 PM)

It was a piece on the race (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 9/20/2006 6:56:07 PM)
With Allen shown in an incredibly poor light. They talked about the current blow up at the debate, then they cover the Breaks incident big time. Webb comes across as a war hero with a son who is at war. They do show footage from this afternoon's appearance with Barak. That's pure gold.

excellent! (TurnVirginiaBlue - 9/20/2006 6:58:46 PM)
I mean that is the bottom line...
Webb walks the walk and we need competency in Washington instead of people who know how to be taken out to lunch and have their blackberry's wired directly to what lobbyists want them to do!

I mean, hot damn, lobbyist literally write legislation, how pathetic is that!

I'll bet Secretary Webb ain't gonna let somebody beyond his staff actually write up a bill to save his soul.

oh, extra nice! (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 9/20/2006 6:58:01 PM)
Their lead in to the series about the 2006 elections now has a nice video of Jim Webb at a podium. Not Allen, not other big names, but Webb speaking at a podium. This is the piece they play going or coming from commercial during the news.

Anybody have video, or a link? (Greg - 9/20/2006 7:42:54 PM)

Found it... (Greg - 9/20/2006 8:01:02 PM)

The MSNBC video and NBC News (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 9/20/2006 6:54:27 PM)
Both were very good. Very positive toward Jim Webb.

BTW- Are we the paid bloggers? I haven't gotten my check yet if we are. Actually, I think I'm like teacherken- lots given, nothing gotten back! Heh. Nice try, Dick Wadhams.

I want to see Webb on Hardball lots more.

show me de money! (TurnVirginiaBlue - 9/20/2006 6:56:31 PM)
Man, I WISH someone would pay me for sitting here putting out my opinions in a bunch of bytes...
please, I'll even take paypal!

Yeah, I even paid for my own 'Born Fighting' t-shirt... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/20/2006 9:11:22 PM)
...and I bought Webb yard signs before the primary to make sure we had enough for our precincts...

Ha me too. Anyone need yard signs? (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 9/20/2006 9:40:27 PM)
My bumper stickers and buttons went like hot cakes, but the yard signs stick with you.

Fantastic interview (lwumom - 9/20/2006 7:13:59 PM)
I was really impressed with how Jim Webb brought the subject around to what he thinks are the important issues facing us today.  Sure, people look at the scandals and those things get the most press, unfortunately, but the general population really WANTS to know what we (Democrats)are going to do differently.  Jim Webb showed that he has a definite opinion on these matters and I think it will show in the end....much more than Allen's "you KNOW me" rhetoric.  Jim Webb is a LEADER.  George Allen is a lemming.

Jim Webb your fanrastic (Gordie - 9/20/2006 8:32:55 PM)
Some one wrote they would like to see Jum on Hardball more. I doubt that will happen. Jum refused to play Chris's politics and stayed straight on message and was not drawn into the slop of the usual politics run by Republicans. Keep to the message and we will have a new Senator in Congress.

How can Allen claim 'You know me'... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/20/2006 9:13:52 PM)
...when he doesn't even admit that he knows himself???

Webb was right on topic (JennyE - 9/20/2006 7:16:04 PM)
Didn't budge one bit when Mathews tried to play Wadhams gutter politics.

That's how things should be.

Webb is principled. (walkabout - 9/20/2006 7:50:22 PM)
Staying on his message was remarkable.  I've not seen the Obama rally yet, but hope to see it soon in Pacific Daylight Time.

Agree w/ lwumom and JennyE (Kathy Gerber - 9/20/2006 7:53:24 PM)
He did an excellent job of keeping the conversation on the issues.

I just watched the video stream... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/20/2006 9:22:28 PM)
...Our man Webb knocked it out of the park... Great cap to a great rally...

Webb made me proud (mickeyd - 9/20/2006 9:35:47 PM)
I had placed this comment in the wrong thread.  But here it is cleaned up a little.

I watched as Tweety tried to get Jim Webb to talk about Allen's Jewish heritage and I was proud that Jim told Tweety the inquiry was inappropriate and that issues relating to Allen's bigotry, heritage, etc. were not relevant.  His insistence on turning the discussion to more substantive matters was admirable.
I hope the campaign will be able to focus on Iraq, Allen's allegiance to the oil and pharmaceutical companies, the huge debt that Bush/Allen have built, etc.  The issues are on our side.  All we need to do is ensure that attention is given to those issues.  Allen would love to distract Virginians from his dreadful record, but as Jim Webb's performance on Hardball showed, he is focused.

We need to elect Webb because in Jim Webb we have a grown-up running for office and Webb with Warner will give Virginia two grown-ups as Senators.

Thanks Allen! (drmontoya - 9/20/2006 11:10:49 PM)
Again, the allen campaign and Allen himself have given Jim Webb and our campaign more free media airtime.

What, we are running an anti-semetic campaign?

Please, save it Mr. Allen.

By the way, thanks for some more air time on Hardball.

I got a question for everyone?

Are ALLEN's staff THIS stupid?

Or do they really hate Allen and want Jim Webb to win?

I just can't figure it out.

COMMENT HIDDEN (Jane Oldham - 9/21/2006 2:29:33 AM)

First, learn how to spell. (Lowell - 9/21/2006 5:35:59 AM)
It's "Webb," not "WEb" or however you think it's spelled.  Second, you are dead wrong.  Jim did GREAT in that interview, totally turning it around to what HE wanted to talk about, not to this nonsense that Dick Wadhams is trying to spew out there (e.g., about bloggers, Peggy Fox, whatever) in order to distract everyone from George Allen's miserable record, and from George Allen's miserable performance in the last two debates.  Jim handled that Hardball interview great, including the "absurd" first question that could have come right from Dick Wadhams.  You go Jim!

Jane Oldham (vote-left - 9/22/2006 2:57:13 AM)
FYI...Jane's (or Janie as she signs her name many times) postings consistently (albeit somewhat subliminally) bash democrats and have a pro-republican slant.

This blogger got a raise yesterday. (PM - 9/21/2006 9:19:36 AM)
Actually, this Webb blogger got a raise yesterday, and one today too.

Let's see.  I get $0.00 per hour blogging here.  (I blog here because I don't want my kids growing up in a society where politicians use intolerance as a weapon -- like Allen does.)

I've worked roughly 200 hours.  But I've contributed about $500 to the campaign.  That means I'm making a negative $2.50 an hour.

But here's the part about the raise.  I'll probably put in another hour or two today, which means my negative per hour wage is getting smaller!

Isn't it just slightly ironic that Allen's paid campaign manager Dick Wadhams, who made his name using paid bloggers in the Thune/Daschle race, is getting his behind kicked here by mostly unpaid bloggers?

There is a saying in the "Not-for-profit" volunteer business (Used2Bneutral - 9/21/2006 10:10:28 AM)
"If you had to pay your most productive and dedicated volunteer people, you couldn't afford them", BUT, being a paid professional even if of a lesser capacity and sometime decades of less experience is always considered more credible.... very confusing.  The good news is that the staff here at RK continues to show their appreciation to the whole team constantly.... and oh darn, that plus our own motivations makes for a very healthy relationship in the activities of dealing with "Trolls".....

Right on, PM (Eric - 9/21/2006 10:45:27 AM)
It's all about passion and what we believe in, not about making money.  No one, not even the ones who do receive minimal salaries from the campaign, are doing this for money.

All of us believe in Jim Webb.

And all of us believe our country will be much better off without the phony conservatives like Allen and Bush in power.

It's that simple.  But apparently still too hard for Wadhams and the Allen team to comprehend.

Agree (Newport News Dem - 9/21/2006 10:51:16 AM)
If you want to work dozens of hours a week in something that not only fails to put a nickle in your pocket but actually costs you $$$$$$$$, get involved in politics or a campaign.

Even the wing nuts and Allen supporters do this for something in which they believe. Unfortunatly, their success tends to be to the detriment of our great country.
