From the Webb campaign, the Sierra Club endorses Jim Webb.  Thanks to the Sierra Club!

(Richmond, VA) GÇô The National and Virginia Chapters of the Sierra Club Political Committee endorsed Jim Webb for U.S. Senate this week. The Sierra ClubGÇÖs mission is to support pro-environmental candidates and keep environmental issues a top priority for Americans. The organization has more than 750,000 members nationally.

GÇ£The Sierra Club is pleased to announce its endorsement of Jim Webb for U.S. Senate.  We are confident that he will work to protect the environment of Virginia for our families and for our future,GÇ¥ said Tyla Matteson, the Virginia Chapter Political Chair of the Sierra Club. GÇ£Senator George Allen is dismantling our environmental laws, and the League of Conservation Voters Scorecard gives him an average of 1% on his voting record.  That is unacceptable. In contrast, Jim Webb is committed to developing alternative energy sources and will support laws that protect our forests, lands, air and waterways.GÇ¥

GÇ£Few organizations have worked to protect the environment with as much dedication and effectiveness as the Sierra Club,GÇ¥ said Jim Webb. GÇ£IGÇÖm honored to receive their support.GÇ¥

Additional organizations that have endorsed Jim Webb for U.S. Senate include:

  * LaborersGÇÖ International Union
  * Sheet Metal Workers International Association
  * International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers
  * The United Mine Workers of AmericaGÇÖs Virginia Coal MinersGÇÖ Political Action Committee

I posted this good news (David Campbell - 9/20/2006 4:21:14 PM)
in a comment on Monday and again this morning.

The Sierra Club has also endorsed Phil Kellam (VA-2),  Bobby Scott (VA-3), Jim Moran (VA-8), and Rick Boucher (VA-9).

Off Topic (PM - 9/20/2006 4:33:51 PM)
Americablog is reporting that Jeff Gannon has been fired by the Washington Blade.  Might we see him again as part of a Dick Wadhams run operation?  Maybe he'll be called in to help the Allen C+ Team?

This is great news (lwumom - 9/20/2006 5:42:08 PM)
I know that many of my friends and family members are very concerned about our environment, so this endorsement sends a strong signal to those who really care about saving our fragile planet for the generations to come.  Jim Webb is our candidate for the future!

Great News! I can't edit my own diary (Mark - 9/20/2006 5:50:30 PM)

Hey Lowell,

I hope by indicating the AFL-CIO endorsement you were including the United Steelworkers. It also needs to be added that about 2 months ago the USW entered into a strategic Alliance with the Sierra Club.
