The Webb campaign's crack research team has developed a series of side-by-side comparisons looking at Jim Webb vs. George Allen on the most important issues facing us today.  Here's the first one, on energy and environment.  Enjoy!

The SIDE BY SIDEs are great all the way around and should be out at every tabling/metro event.

Question: Is the Allen Camp covering up Webb Campaign signs?

Dirty tricks means they are desperate!

Back to the original post.  SIDE BY SIDEs should be for flyers and for campaign signs.  One should not obstruct or remove someone elses signs.  SIDE BY SIDE works well and is not bratty or bullying.  ALLEN needs to go back to charm school 101.

Sierra Club endorses Webb (David Campbell - 9/20/2006 8:14:47 AM)
As I noted in a previous comment, the Sierra Club has finally endorsed Jim Webb, along with thier previous endorsements of Phil Kellam (VA-2),  Bobby Scott (VA-3), Jim Moran (VA-8), and Rick Boucher (VA-9).

That is super news.

Webb Rocks!!

Fantastic! (phriendlyjaime - 9/20/2006 8:24:15 AM)
This is so great, and between our rockin Obama rally and now this, it is good to see that our candidate wants to focus on ISSUES instead of distractions to take attention away from failed debates.  (Yeah, I'm talking to you, Allen)

Energy Ignorance (Bubby - 9/20/2006 9:03:48 AM)
Prospecting new oil fields in hopes of averting another oil price surge indicates a complete ignorance of market forces. Politicians have to articulate a coherent energy policy that includes incentives for conservation - before the market enforces it.  This is national security critical.

Simple things like vehicle fleet mileage standards, funding for mass transit, energy consumption standards for housing and commercial construction are all things within the grasp of courageous politicians.  George Allen is a soft target on these issues - look at his campaign contributions and tell me he is anything more than a spokesman for the extraction industries.

Who will stand up for America (not just big oil), national security, and environmental quality?

Who has the vision to see an energy secure nation?

Who will inspire shared sacrifice for our common interest?

Our walk to the crossroads (Bubby - 9/20/2006 9:16:47 AM)
And while we contemplate our shaky energy arrangements, take a long look down the path of nuclear energy that now hangs newly 'greened' before us.  We have no long term remedies for the safe storage of the toxic residues and waste that this source generates.  It is stored in temporary casks around the nation, guarded by expensive taxpayer subsidized security forces.

We live with energy source desperation and a devil waiting at the cross-roads.  If only we had discipline, common vision, and strong leadership. We need a change of our own design, not the one that will be enforced. Do you really expect a dress-up cowboy to provide this leadership?

That's all well and good - but let's hear some specifics! (clymbon - 10/3/2006 10:57:26 AM)
It's pretty easy to come out ahead of Allen on a side-by-side comparison of views on the environment.  But just because you come out ahead of Atilla the Hun doesn't make you Mother Theresa.

Let's hear some concrete suggestions from Webb.

What specifically is he going to do to help clean up the Chesapeake?

What is his position on nuclear energy?  If he's for it, what are we going to do about the wastes?  If he's against it, does he really think that wind, solar, and conservation are going to be sufficient to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels to the extent needed to combat global warming?  Tough questions - let's see if he's got the smarts and guts to come up with some answers.
