Who would Jesus Torture?

The other day I was in a clothing store buying a few things for the fall and as I checked out I reminded the ladies at the cash register how important it is that they vote Democratic in November. One of them perked up and said she wouldn+óGé¼Gäót be voting Democratic while others were silent. The Republican lady was wearing a necklace in the shape of a cross. I just looked at her was very tempted to say +óGé¼+ôWho would Jesus torture?+óGé¼-¥, but I didn+óGé¼Gäót.

She is one of several million Americans who advertise their so-called Christianity visually and who also support President Bush, no matter what. They support him even now as he wants to legalize the ability to torture terror suspects, to convict people on hear-say, and torture the children of suspected terrorists.

By now most people realize that the torturers tell the suspects what information they are looking for and then torture them until they get it. Seems pretty easy doesn+óGé¼Gäót it? In this way Bush can claim to have found terrorists whether or not it is true. In fact, this seems to be the only +óGé¼+ôintelligence+óGé¼-¥ Bush is really interested in. In this way Bush can create a world of terrorists without really bothering to find out who the real terrorists actually are.
In our legal system the evidence obtained from torture sessions would be called coerced confessions and would not be admissible in court. If this becomes the standard for suspected terrorists it is one small step to make it the standard for the American legal system.

Its time we faced the fact that we have a concentration camp just off our shores. Just because it is not on our soil does not mean it is ours. Even in Nazi Germany the presence of concentration camps was not openly discussed. In Nazi Germany if one spoke out against Hitler, one could disappear for a couple of years into one of these camps. That would go for non-Jews or anyone who dared to speak out. Those who returned were forbidden to speak about their experiences there.

Today we operate torture camps openly and our president even seems proud of the fact. Right Wing Christians mindlessly follow the president and in doing so are endorsing policies of torture which includes the torture of children. The leaders of these so-called Christian groups feed them this version of Christianity like a zoo keeper feeding the monkeys a plastic banana. It+óGé¼Gäós a phony Christianity, and its followers are phony, plastic Christians. Jesus explicitly admonishes his followers to never cause one of these little ones to stumble, but the plastic Christians of today are more interested in obedience to authority than Jesus. They are today+óGé¼Gäós +óGé¼+ôGood Germans+óGé¼-¥.

The movie +óGé¼+ôInvasion of the Body Snatchers+óGé¼-¥ came out during the McCarthy era and documents this phenomenon. One day people were thinking feeling humans, the next they were vacant automatons who looked the same, but were void of human souls. It would have been more appropriate to have called the movie +óGé¼+ôInvasion of the Soul Snatchers+óGé¼-¥ because the bodies remained while each person+óGé¼Gäós basic humanity disappeared.

The leaders of the Right Wing Christians are the soul snatchers of today. They teach their followers not to think or feel, but to follow the president mindlessly. In doing so they have turned their followers into soul-less pod people and they have turned their religion into a cult.
