Webb won debate

This morning on "Meet the Press," Webb came across as a bit of a military policy wonk sometimes, but he handled himself very well.

Allen mostly squirmed to evade questions.  He denounced the confederate flag (which may anger his racist supporters).  He opposed permanent bases in Iraq (something Bush has been unwilling to say).

When Allen refused to commit to serving out all six years of his Senate term, Webb should have jumped in and "I will!"

Whenever Webb and Allen appear side by side, it's a plus for Webb.  Overall, this was good free press for Webb.

Are you seeing it earlier? (PM - 9/17/2006 10:46:35 AM)
It's 11:00 EDT here, and it's half over.

But Webb is actually blowing Allen away.  I'm trying to be objective, and I was afraid that Allen's polish would help him, but Webb (who does come cross like a wonk -- but as a soldier as well) seems to be winning big in the first half.  Allen looks very defensive.

Okay (Arturo - 9/17/2006 12:11:21 PM)
Webb may sound like a wonk, but he's a military wonk, which is exactly what this country needs.  Policy wonks got us into this misadventure in Iraq.

It was on in Hampton Roads at 9:00 AM (David Campbell - 9/17/2006 7:06:43 PM)

Allen was a weasel... (ericy - 9/17/2006 11:13:33 AM)

On numerous questions Allen weaseled.  On torture.  On the future of Iraq.  On whether he would serve a full term.  And for that matter he tried taking cheap shots at Webb a couple of times.

I cannot believe that people take this idiot somehow became Governor and Senator.  Hopefully he will get an early retirement.

cheers.. (drmontoya - 9/17/2006 12:09:13 PM)
to sending allen to his political retirement!

allen, the douchebag. pathetic.

Jim Webb, the war hero. Leadership we can be proud of.

The winner is (VA Breeze - 9/17/2006 2:35:55 PM)
Webb. Since I am not impartial, I asked a friend of mine, a conservative, what he thought and he said the thought it was a tie. Well, that put a big smile on my face as it tells me that Webb did win!
