Why will Jim Webb be a better US Senator for Black Voters?

The Paid Allen Trolls (PATs) are at it again over on NLS today on the post about Wilder's endorsement.  They continue to ploy African American voters and say that Webb has not demonstrated why he's a better choice for them.

That's a crock, and here's why I think that.
African Americans have been sent to Iraq to die.

African Americans are suffering the consequences of the Bush budget cuts to the poor so the rich can have tax cuts.

African Americans are suffering because the for-profit American health care system is raping the disadvantaged's access to world-class medical care and preventitive services.

African Americans are suffering because NCLB will close their neighborhood schools and abandon the 100-year American promise (a most JEFFERSONIAN promise) to educate ALL children with adequate resources and provide all good opportunities regardless of socioeconomic origin.

African Americans are suffering because of the Bush adminstrations gutting of environmental protections, protections that more often than not affect their neighborhoods.

I could go on.

But you know what, these issues adversely affect ALL Americans.

And a vote for George Allen is a vote for the agenda of George W Bush. Lambert is mistaken, and the Paid Allen Trolls are mistaken to ploy the African American community like they are, because they can think for themselves, and they KNOW who ACTUALLY gives a shit about them (and everyone, for that matter).

And that's why I will tell you that anyone who values progress in America and justice around the World, regardless of their race, will choose to elect the soldier and statesman Jim Webb over the rubber-stamper Senator George "Bush-Man" Allen.

It's as simple as that.

Allen = Bush (Todd Smyth - 9/15/2006 1:06:07 PM)
Everything in the Republican agenda is designed to lower wages accross the board to increase and maintain profit for their cronies.  "Tax Reform" is just a scam they use to steal $8 trillion dollars from our children and pass some of it out as "Tax Cuts" to buy off voters and keep themselves in power.  It's a shell game, where they move the money around in Congress but it always ends up the same.  Massive giveaways to their rich supporters and more debt for our children.  They are crooks plain and simple.

They also thump their chest about border security but Reagan legalized border crossing to break the backs of the Unions in the eighties and that is how the 11-20 million undocumented workers got into this country.  Reagan changed border crossing to an "Administrative Fault" which is why no one is ever arrested, arrained or sentanced to jail time.  Because it isn't illegal anymore.Everything in the Republican agenda is designed to lower wages accross the board to increase and maintain profit for their cronies.

In addition to the wholesale outsourcing of our jobs, these are the major reasons for lowering wages across the board for the poor and sky rocketing salaries for upper management.  These are also the reasons for the increase in poverty, lack of healthcare and sky rocketing price of healthcare.

We need someone who recognizes these things and will do something about and Jim Webb is the right person, while George Allen has been a large part of the problem rubber stamping every greedy and crooked policy of the Bush administration.

Bush = Allen (David Campbell - 9/15/2006 3:04:36 PM)
Black approval for Bush is at 2%, within the margin of error.

Another reason is that Jim Webb understands poverty better (demnan - 9/15/2006 4:28:08 PM)
The area he comes from, Southwest VA, is an area with a lot of rural poverty.  Jim Webb's people still live down there and I'm sure he will work to fight poverty having a first hand knowledge of what it is.  So that's a strong reason, especially for rural black voters, to vote for Webb.

Webb is better, but needs to differentiate himself (RayH - 9/15/2006 5:28:41 PM)

Michael Paul Williams had an insightful column in today's RTD. http://www.timesdisp...

Explaining why Sen Lambert crossed the party line to endorse Allen, Williams quotes him:

"You've got two people running," Lambert said. "One is a Reaganite and one is a Bushite. I mean, what is the difference?

"Webb took a long time to even get in contact with me, and I was really planning on helping him a whole lot. He did talk with me a few weeks ago, and I was impressed with him, to tell you the truth. But it was a little too late."

What the hell???

According to Williams, Lambert said the basic motivation was:

"Money," ... "Not for me, but historically black institutions throughout America." The incumbent, he says, has the clout to get that money. Webb, he says, does not.

I like Webb very much, and support his candidacy, so these sentiments from Lambert raise a real concern. I don't believe that black voters are going to rally for Allen, but I also hate to see any appearance of taking for granted this crucial part of the Democratic core. The Webb campaign cannot afford a poor turnout from African American voters in Virginia.

Allen has struck out by alienating minority voters, time is starting to run out for Webb to step up to the plate and hit a home run.

Jim Webb, the only choice (skepticalbrotha - 9/15/2006 5:29:28 PM)
As an African-American, I have a real problem with some of Webb's past statements regarding Affirmative Action, women in the military, and the confederacy in general. However, there will be time to address all of that later.  In the meantime, it would behoove the Webb campaign to organize black voters and get Confederate George out of office.

If African-American elected officials seem skittish, then it is time that Webb and his people meet with these officals and properly address their concerns. There needs to be a clear understanding between all concerned parties and an agenda for moving forward.

As far as I'm concerned, Allen is the real racist and problem wingnut. His record is replete with B.S. to exploit. Mea culpas delivered after a disasterous slide in the polls to a deadheat are disingenuous and self-serving.

No matter what William R. Harvey or Bennie Lambert say, Allen has done absolutely nothing for black colleges and universities or for education in general. Just because two perfectly good black men become delusional is no reason for the entire black community to lose touch with reality and vote for Allen.

Remember y'all, this is the same senator who pushed Claude Allen, a black, right-wing, shoplifter as a candidate for the fourth circuit court of appeals.

There is only one choice: Jim Webb.

I couldn't agree more!!! (RayH - 9/15/2006 6:49:10 PM)
