A Few Pics from the Ethnic Rally

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  How much does two pictures say?

The two photos at left were taken at the same event close to the same time.  This paints a much clearer picture of what was happening around George Allen as he posed for an "ethnic" photo-op.  The crowd of mostly white supporters in the lower photo is the same crowd that has been cropped out of the upper photo (from the Allen website).

And the crowd of supporters consists mostly of GWU College Republicans.  CR's from out of state.  The District?  Talk about un-real Virginia.  I wonder how many of them are even Virginia residents...

To show that I didn't just crop this one photo, there are a few more down below.  Some are framed tighter and some are wider to give a good feel for the crowd waiting for Allen after the remarks inside.

Not that anyone asked me... (va.walter - 9/13/2006 5:13:08 PM)
but it's time to move on from the "fake ethnic rally."  It is no longer news (and really never was).  At this point, who cares if white people were there or not?  Now's the time for the blogosphere to be proactive, not reactive.

No one asked! (Eric - 9/13/2006 5:31:00 PM)
Ha.  Just kidding.  Your comment is valid.

Mostly I'm just finishing off something that I've been too busy to complete earlier.

But there are also valid reasons for keeping this alive...

The Allen supporters continue to bring it up.  And usually in an incorrect or misleading way.  I have an admittedly biased point of view, but I haven't fabricated events or information about the rally.  I've poked a little fun and highlighted observations that you won't get from the other side.  The photos and videos back up those observations.

And the Allen campaign will continue to lean on events like this to show everyone how diverse and culturally sensitive they are.  The events of last weekend, documented here and on other posts, show that what the Allen camp is providing isn't exactly the whole story.

I know, it's called spin.  Everyone does it.  But there's no reason we should not counter spin with our side of the story every time he spins it his way.

I appreciate the effort you're putting in. (va.walter - 9/13/2006 9:24:06 PM)
The problem is, we're now at a point where people are literally counting dark skin versus light skin.  You're hearing comments about the college students outside holding signs but the "people of color" were rallying inside.  My point is, the story no longer has legs so there's nothing to refute or defend.  The more we discuss it the more it reminds people that the event even occurred.  If we leave it alone it'll be forgotten tomorrow.

Yeah. (Eric - 9/13/2006 10:16:06 PM)
It's reached a state of absurdity when I.Pub states a "fact" that everyone can very clearly see is wrong.  Which I suppose is his real goal - to drive the conversation to the point of pointlessness.

Regardless, I've finished up the material I have.  I'll reserve the right to trot it back out if need be (in extreme cases of the previously stated reasons), but otherwise I will post no more on this topic.

Damn those wide-angle shots! n/t (lwumom - 9/13/2006 6:16:01 PM)

COMMENT HIDDEN (I.Publius - 9/13/2006 7:03:43 PM)

Your title. (phriendlyjaime - 9/13/2006 7:13:38 PM)
That's funny, I just went back and looked at all of the pics, looked again at your post, and now I have the same question for you.

Annual Ethnic Rally (blackamerican - 9/13/2006 7:13:10 PM)
Aside from the fact that the rally has every year in Fairfax County, and not because of Allen, you Dems need to understand what is spin and what is not.  Seek to learn about a subject before you comment on it.  How you can support a fake Democrat like Webb is beyond me.  Webb has endorsed Allen in the past and now wants people to believe that his politics have changed.  Webb uses Reagan in his ads, and still wants people to change his politics have changed.  You Dems should be upset with your party for putting up a weak former republican as your candidate.

Completely backwards (Lowell - 9/13/2006 7:26:02 PM)
I am THRILLED that our party put up a strong new Democrat (and FORMER Republican) like Jim Webb.  This is exactly how we're going to start winning back "Reagan Democrats," with people like Reagan's former Navy Secretary.  And this is exactly how we Democrats are going to become the majority party in this country again.  It's exciting!

COMMENT HIDDEN (I.Publius - 9/13/2006 9:20:11 PM)

Can't resist one more comment (Eric - 9/13/2006 10:26:29 PM)
It's true that this wasn't "Allen's Rally".  It was a Republican Ethnic Rally and I believe this was the third year.  Not a long history, but certainly not something just for George.

I also don't believe I ever called it "Allen's Rally" and if I did, I did so incorrectly.  But please note on the first photo, direct from the Allen website, it is labeled as an "Allen Rally".

Move on .... (blackamerican - 9/13/2006 7:27:35 PM)
Oh my God!  White folks attended the rally and a few chose to go outside to say goodbye to our beloved Senator.  Racism I tell you!!  Racism!

Come on, it's time to move on!  The Dems' attempt at spin the rally is wholly unproductive.

No matter how many pictures are posted, it does change the fact that no allegedly aggreived minorities showed up to protest.  Futhermore, there hasn't been any public statement by any minority group that they have been aggreived.

Stop trying give legs to a nonissue.

By the way, the Senator's poll numbers are back up.:)

Poll numbers back down for "the Senator" (Lowell - 9/13/2006 7:34:43 PM)
See the new SurveyUSA poll.

I had to think... (bladerunner - 9/13/2006 7:58:25 PM)
Yes I had to think between Miller and Webb, and so I did. I thought all the way up to primary day and went with Webb because I believe he has the best chance of beating Allen. The Dems have done nothing to scare Allen since the early 90's, and they've had chances, so I thought it would be good to go with something new. At this point we need to get Allen the hell out of office cause he's done enough damage to Virginia.

To the previous writer all I can say is that Allen is a hateful man, and hasn't done shit for the Black community, but it's America and people can vote for who they want.

Color blind? (libra - 9/13/2006 8:06:28 PM)
I Pube,

I realise it's kinda hard to tell -- from the back -- who's pure pink and who ain't. But, the only way you get more non-whites in those pics is if you count black and brown *hair* as being an indication of macaca-ness. When you look at arms and legs, however, it's mostly vanilla, with a touch of raspberry (sunny weather that day, was it?).

Blackface,

Your pink whatsis is showing; I'd zip myself up before making up poll numbers.
