An open letter to peta

I am not a member of peta, but I am vegetarian.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a bill that will outlaw the slaughter of horses in the United States for human consumption abroad.  I was appalled to learn that Rep. Thelma Drake was the only local legislator to vote against this bill.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, Rep. Drake supported their interests 0% in 2005.

I urge peta members in the 2nd district to send Drake a message by voting her out of office in November.  Vote for Phil Kellam.

Compassion index (VA Breeze - 9/11/2006 11:42:28 PM)
The organization Society for Animal Protective Legislation has a grading scale on their website that ranks Congress on the animal protection issues and provides a score. Cantor and Goodlatte, who also voted against protecting horses from slaughter, each have a score of zero. In contrast, Jim Moran has a score of 100%. Thelma-is in a class by herself-has a score of -11%. Yes, negative 11%.  (www.sapoline.org)

I wonder (David Campbell - 9/12/2006 7:30:25 AM)
A score of -11% is amazingly bad.  How we can get that information out to all the horse-lovers and animal-lovers in the 2nd district?

Get the word out (VA Breeze - 9/12/2006 9:34:32 AM)
I have written letters to the editor but only one has been printed this year. Maybe today's article in The Virginian-Pilot about the horse industry in Virginia Beach and the rest of Southeast VA will begin a trend.
