Subject: Fwd: You are invited to crash a House Party for Jim Webb!!!

Dear all, Punish Success and Reward Failure...Vote for Jim Webb!!!
Jim Webb will be hosting a House Party to support a leader who will change Washington...for the worst. We need supporters and volunteers to help go door to door and place signs in people's yard during this event (please click on the link below). Please forward this to all volunteers and activists. If you know anyone in this area, ask if they would be willing to place an Allen sign in their yard. We need to welcome Mr. Webb to Allen country!!!! Webb Event and Location--

What is Mr. Harris asking Republicans to do exactly? Disrupt Webb events at private homes? Demoralize us?  Nice try if they think THAT is going to happen!

If They Tried This At My House..... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 9/8/2006 4:26:35 PM)
Hunter Pickels wouldn't be the only one facing trespassing charges!!!

And someone.... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 9/8/2006 4:27:17 PM)
...who tries to put an Allen sign on my front lawn might end up with a bloody nose and/or bruised ego!

I just called.. (drmontoya - 9/8/2006 4:40:31 PM)
the first number and the young lady was speechless if I asked if this was true.

She became speechless after I told her I was a DEMOCRAT!

Desperate (lwumom - 9/8/2006 5:12:42 PM)
...and pathetic.

Hello??? We did it to Allen (totallynext - 9/8/2006 6:02:49 PM)
Don't act like we just didn't protest a fund raiser for Allen in Mount Vernon.  Come on - Which I thought was silly.

Way different... (Loudoun County Dem - 9/8/2006 6:24:10 PM)
...The folks who protested the fund raiser were in public space protesting Bush and Allen in person.

This email looks to be recruiting to cause trouble at private homes where the candidate will not be. This hints at intimidation.

Very different...

That was a public event, at which (Lowell - 9/8/2006 6:38:36 PM)
there were both Republicans and Democrats peacefully carrying signs. This e-mail is calling for Republicans to enter private homes with the intent, apparently, of disrupting the proceedings!  Totally different.

Call the police (Arturo - 9/8/2006 9:52:13 PM)
If they do this on private property, call the police and have them arrested.  Put some cameras or webcams out, so you can record them putting signs in the yards.  Then post it on youtube, so we can all see it!

They are entitled to peacefully protest within the law (RayH - 9/8/2006 6:43:29 PM)
If Allen supporters want to put signs in their yards, that's ok. If they want to peacefully assemble or express their views in accordance with their First Amendment rights, I defend that right-- even though I disagree with what they say-- provided that they do not break the law or disrupt our event.

Were I hosting a Webb party, I'd personally invite my neighbors, and talk with them about the election. I believe that is the first and best line of defense against Allen encrouchment.

As part of the protest near the recent Allen/Bush fundraiser in Mt. Vernon, I can say:

1) We were on public property
2) We did not impede traffic or disrupt proceedings
3) We cooperated fully with law enforcement/security
4) There were Allen supporters at the same site, and partisans on each side were basically civil to one another

On the other hand, if they plan to come to our events and disrupt them from within, that would certainly be unacceptable.

So what is their plan, Lowell, and exactly what is it that you expect us to do in response?

Ummm... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 9/8/2006 7:12:01 PM)
Ray, I think the email was suggesting putting signs in WEBB house party hosts' yards.  That is definitely not legal.

Unless.... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 9/8/2006 7:13:12 PM)
I misread this email.

When they included the phrase "during this event" I assumed that they were encouraging people to put signs in yards at houses where the parties were happening, but maybe I am misreading the intent there....I hope so!

Damn..... (Doug in Mount Vernon - 9/8/2006 7:14:03 PM)
That was one POORLY written email!

I have no idea what their "plan" is (Lowell - 9/8/2006 7:17:16 PM)
I'm just passing along the e-mail so that everyone knows about it.

It is a vague, poorly written email (RayH - 9/9/2006 12:45:02 PM)

I thought that they meant to canvass the neighborhood, find neighbors sympathetic to Allen, and get them to post signs. THAT would be ok, in my book.

You could interpret it to mean sticking signs in people's lawns without their consent-- THAT would be bad.

Good grief, y'all are thick. (I.Publius - 9/9/2006 7:31:37 AM)
Yes, it's a poorly worded email, but the message is still plainly evident:

When Webb is having an event at someone's home, get volunteers out to knock on doors in the neighborhood -- find nearby homes who will put Allen signs in their yards.  Show anyone going to the Webb event that they're in Allen country.

But y'all go ahead and wait for the Allen folks to illegally put signs onto private property without the owner's permission.  That's a really good idea.  And call the police, too.  Yeah -- great plan.

Speaking of "thick," I Pubus (Lowell - 9/9/2006 7:48:30 AM)
I presume you saw this?

"Subject: Fwd: You are invited to crash a House Party for Jim Webb!!!"

These parties are being held in PRIVATE homes (Lowell - 9/9/2006 7:49:29 AM)
In other words, this, guy is advocating that Allen supporters "crash" into PRIVATE homes, after crossing PRIVATE property.  Gee, I could have sworn that Republicans respected private property and private homes.  Guess not.
