General Wesley Clark Blasts Bush's Iraq Policy

This is awesome; go General Clark!

Neil Cavuto of Faux Fox News:  We haven't had an attack in almost 5 years, that's not bad.

Wesley Clark: Well, I'm delighted that we haven't, and I hope we'll never be attacked.  The attack on 9/11 occurred on the president's watch. He took us into a war with Iraq we didn't have to fight. It's been used to incentivize recruiting in Al Qaeda. The nu,ber of people who are affiliated with Al Qaeda worldwide has more than doubled since 2001. Our armed forces are bogged down in Iraq. We haven't been able to effectively engage with North Korea. We're hearing the tom toms beating for war with Iran. I think the American people can judge. This administration's policy has been a mistake and he's not made us safer. He's left us more vulnerable.

Neil Cavuto: Let me ask you, General, the folks we're fighting in Iraq right now. If we weren't fighting them in Iraq right now, where would they be?

Wesley Clark: Well, a lot of those folks we wouldn't e fighting at all.  Because what we did is we incentivized a whole generation of young, radical people to come and defend Islam against the United States.  That's the foreign terrorists that are there...We did not have to attack Iraq.  What we could have done is focused on Afghanistan and finished the job in Afghanistan, but Neil we didn't do that...

There's more; watch the whole thing; it's great!

Also, see the new report on Bush's national security failures by Third Way, joined by Wesley Clark and Democratic leaders. The bottom line: "the Bush [national security] strategy is not working."

Re: Wes on Cavuto 9/5/06 / This is a model of how to fight back!

If all Democrats, Democratic candidates, and Democratic leaders would fight back against GOP Neocon leaders and candidates as hard and as effectively as Gen. Clark did against Cavuto, then Democrats would be in great shape to win back power in BOTH branches of Congress in 2006 with a blow out!

Gen. Clark is tough but polite and does not take any of Cavuto's partisan Neocon crap like how many Democrats just sit back and take it. He also did not let Cavuto change the subject when the heat was being turned up on him!

Gen. Clark clearly and effectively responded to Cavuto point by point which is what you have to do in order to connect with the voters. That has been a big problem for many Democrats and Democratic leaders in my opinion!

I hope that they can see this and would learn something from it!

Fact is, the only time I ever saw him lose his cool was with Cavuto back in '04. He pretty much built Cavuto a new one. Ah, good times, good times.

Fox is certainly not too balanced. (thegools - 9/6/2006 3:46:19 PM)
That guy sounded like a voice piece for the neo-cons....Shock.

Clark comes off as a smart and focused guy, to be sure.

My last diary (drmontoya - 9/6/2006 7:25:48 PM)
this was the topic, and how NO cable media network picked it up but fox. and twice!

wow.

Not surprised (libra - 9/6/2006 10:37:53 PM)
My son says (with a snicker) that "all women like Clark". But I liked him looong before I'd ever seen his photo for the first time (though, addmittedly, I was somewhat smitten when I did see one ). He struck me as being full of common sense way back in '03 and I first saw a pic a couple of months ago.
