Staunton Democrat Responds to "Run Them Out" Comment

The Staunton Daily News Leader has an excellent op-ed by VMI graduate and Staunton resident Charlie Bishop.  The title is "Bully-boy words don't frighten local Democrat," and the sub-title is "Goodlatte's 'run them out' comment wasn't worthy."  But the part I liked the best was about George "97% Bush Clone" Allen (bolding added for emphasis):

The whole discussion about George Allen's possible racism misses a more basic point: Racist or not, he is surely a bully. His "red meat" offerings and veiled threats, ("knock their soft teeth down their whiny throats") are boring, but not new. His own sister's book paints him as an out-of-control bully who terrorized his younger siblings.

Just as the inarticulate occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Allen is trying to live up to his father and thinks being a faux cowboy and hiding the California-born surfer that he is will "git 'er done." I'm old enough to realize that Allen has morphed into a tobacco-chewing version of Spiro Agnew, a rhetorical bully who can dish, but can't take. I suggest a new sign for downtown Staunton: "Here lie the presidential aspirations of George Allen, abandoned when he fled in terror from a gorilla and a giant banana."

Great stuff; it's nice to see a VMI grad calling it like he sees it, and kicking some (rhetorical) butt in the process.  Sort of like Jim Webb, come to think of it! :)

Who's the Bully? Who's calling people names? (loboforestal - 9/5/2006 11:15:32 AM)

Jim Webb needs to grow up and address the issues

Jim Webb should grow up and deal with the issues ...

He's running for the U.S. Senate, not the local playground bully. He is acting like a small child who makes fun of people's names and picks on the clothing they wear.

Grow up! Discuss the issues. Our country is at war, a war for our very survival.

Webb should discuss our real concerns and what he would do about them, and quit calling names.

...

I suggest that Webb deal with the issues and give the voters a choice. He needs to stop the childish behavior and give voters a chance to see him for who he really is.

So the Republican tactic appears to be try and make Jim Webb look like he has the failings of George Allen.  I guess the next logical step for them is to attack Webb's intelligence.

Net bullying (joellittle - 9/5/2006 11:46:24 AM)
Allen's bullying is about to pick up in the blogosphere.  His new net-roots staffer, Jon Henke, is starting to coordinate attacks on Webb through sympathetic conservative bloggers. Mr. Wadhams and the Allen campaign has started feeding "content" for the bloggers to publish.

"Racism Is Not a Family Value" (bb10 - 9/5/2006 2:15:35 PM)
The full op-ed piece is very good: an excellent smack-down of a really obnoxious comment. And I like the writer's mention of the Monkey and the Banana who helped chase George Allen out of Staunton (see here and  here for more on that).

Watch tomorrow for a new diary by the Monkey and the Banana cross-posted here on RK and on DailyKos. There's a demonstration planned for this coming Saturday in Alexandria to bring more attention to Allen's racism, and to respond with the message of "racism is not a family value."

RE: Good Lattes (JPTERP - 9/5/2006 10:31:24 PM)
Maybe we could make this 201 files match a fundraiser with winner taking all, or money going to a veterans charity?  I'd pay good money to see Mr. Bob Good Lattes put his money where his mouth is.  We'd just need to make sure that no one showed up in a banana or gorilla suit or the Representative and Felix might cut and run before the fun even started.
