The crowd size was hard to estimate, ~300,000.  It was indeed amazing.  Saturday and Sunday were cool and partly cloudy with huge crowds that were mostly receptive.  Very few negative comments. Those folks who took material were mostly the "throw them all out crowd."  Many more people now seem to know about Jim Webb. I stopped every Veteran and reminded them that Jim was a Vet.  Only one of these guys told me he was in the wrong party.  On Sunday afternoon an Allen clone stopped by and phoned in a report of our presence to someone.  We waited, but no Allen folks came by.  There was no or very little Allen presence down there.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Department figures anywhere between 100,000 and 200,000 will show up, while a representative of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter that started the event says 250,000 sounds about right. Town Manager Larry South said 500,000 could be more like it.

Great job as always, Todd. (Lowell - 9/4/2006 6:35:12 PM)
You are definitely in the running for "Webb Volunteer of the Year." The only problem is, you've got a lot of competition from some amazing people.  Still, you rock; keep it up and we'll party hearty in 64 days! :)

Is a slice of rural America.  I'll never forget the sight of a mom wheeling her toddler in a stroller - the kid was bracketed by two long guns shoved into the stroller and  standing barrel-up on either shoulder of the child.
