National Journal Drops Allen to the Back of the Class of '08

America now knows that George Allen is not a nice guy.

What's the cost?

Apparently the costs are mounting.  National Journal dropped him from #3 to #5 contender for the '08 Republican nomination, boosting Guiliani and Huckabee.  Here's what they had to say:

He can salvage his presidential hopes if he turns his re-election race into a rallying cry for conservatives who want to keep the Senate. And if he manages a convincing win. And if he finds someone to stop McCain and Romney from grabbing early donors and supporters. And if he avoids a Northern Virginia controversy. And if he stops the National Review from chastising him. The "Macaca" incident certainly shed light on who Allen's true friends are.

We're about due for an update on the senate rankings.  Keep an eye out [here] to see further proof that you gotta be a gentleman.

Washingtonian Award for "No Rocket Scientist" Goes To . . . (PM - 9/3/2006 5:09:16 PM)
Maybe here's another honor Allen won't want to accept.  Each year Washingtonian Magazine polls senior congressional staff in a variety of categories.  On the Senate side, the "No Rocket Scientist" vote for #1 went to Jim Bunning (there were allegations in his last election campaign that he was showing signs of senility).  Tied for the #2 spot?  Rick Santorum and ... drum roll ... George Allen.  Washingtonian said it received ballots back from an almost identical number of Dem and GOP staffers.

It's in the September 2006 issue of the magazine, page 64.  (Smartest were said to be Clinton, Frist and Sarbanes.)  Allen was a favorite among Senate GOP staff for president, with McCain second; Obama and Clinton were the top two Dem favorites.

I recall from years ago that the award was called plain old "Dumbest" and Sen. Scott of Virginia used to win the honor.  Nice to see that Allen is continuing a fine old Virginia tradition.

We knew all along Allen is and was a sick man..... (bladerunner - 9/3/2006 7:20:43 PM)
Yes in my family we knew all along that Allen is and has been a hateful man. In fact I have taught my daughters that he is a very dangerous and sick man...and back in 1993 he ran a campaign full of lies and hate against Mary Sue Terry--we were quite offended. He had a commercial at the time that said" George Allen for honest change" well we reworded it to fit his true character, "George Allen for honest HATEFUL change". To this day my kids can hear me singing this in the shower. Every person who has ever run against this sicko has a story to tell and on election day Jim Webb is going to put an end to this awful chapter in Virginia political history. I don't know why it's taken so long to get Allen's real hate out in public, but it probably has something to do with Blogs--no wonder Allen is against Net Neutrality--He wants to squash anyone that says the truth about him and he knows he's getting exposed in a big way. And we have Lowell to thank for that. Keep up the great work.

RE: Campaign Sloganizing (JPTERP - 9/3/2006 8:04:23 PM)
That "honest change" line is right up there with "common sense conservative principles," which Allen's Google ads have been pushing lately.  In light of recent events we know exactly what "common sense conservative principles" means to Allen.
