Why Webb Will Win

Jim Webb & John Kerry
It's been a long summer.

At least that how it appears to me. Especially, here in Virginia. We begin the summer with a little known candidate, and try to oust a very well funded former lobbyist.

Many people who were supporting our candidate had yet still to meet one another. Most of the support were still very much on the grassroots level.

Heck, this is basically how our candidate's run started. With a draft movement. And although, I wasn't part of that movement. I was there since Jim Webb announced his run, onboard that is.
What began as a dream has slowly turned into a reality.

You could have told people at the beginning of the summer, that Virginia wouldn't have a shot in defeating a would be Presidential Contender out of the Senate race. They would have said that if they didn't know Jim Webb.

In our first victory, we beat a very well funded Harris Miller in the Virginia primary mid-June. Not with a single TV ad, not with barely any money. To all, we bucked conventional wisdom.

Why?

Jim Webb's candidacy started with in his words "A bunch of rag-tag rebels", and that's what carried his primary victory in June.

The people online, who believe in something more than just winning. It's about changing America, it's about changing Virginia.

These bloggers online launched Jim Webb's candidacy. They carried him to victory over his primary opponent, and made him the Democratic Nominee.

People all over Virginia; don't even know who he is yet. They don't know that he's a former Marine. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. An infantry platoon officer, who showed courage on the battlefield, and was highly decorated for it.

They have never seen a TV ad, some have never heard his voice, and people may barely know his name. But he's managing a 1.3 lead over a well known, well funded, possible presidential contender. Again, bucking conventional wisdom.

A few weeks ago, I was very frustrated with the structure of the campaign. A volunteer, I thought the campaign could do more to challenge Mr. Allen.

This frustration proceeded, as the first debate came and passed. And a candidate, who I have never believed in more, didn't perform to his best. Part of this was a cheap political trick by his opponent. But, still I was discouraged.

What was even more discouraging were the poll numbers, after his primary win over Harris Miller. Jim Webb was within sticking distance. But, for whatever reason after time his distance grew further.

I spoke to someone (one person) about how I felt, how I felt like our campaign, our dream, was headed to failure. In my doubt, this person virtually smacked me over the head. He told me to project optimism. It was probably the best advice I have received in any campaign.

I continued to work after this, hoping for the best. Fighting harder to make this slipping dream a reality.

Then, something happened.. Something horrible.

On the campaign trail, the now infamous racially driven comments were made by Senator Allen. And then, it exploded. We instantly had everything turn around.

Thousands, it seems poured in for support. Big names, big donations, lot of supporters signed on.

We sit today weeks before the election that is not only important to Virginia. It's important to America, not only for the control of congress, but to set our country in the right direction again.

Jim Webb will win not because he has the most money, not because he's got the best consultants, or the best advice.

It's because Jim Webb has the best supporters.

He will be the next junior Senator for Virginia. He will probably be the deciding factor in the control of the United States Senate for our party.

And in walking away from politics, I will be happy to say I was a part of it.

I will keep working hard. I will keep bringing more people to his campaign. I will keep pushing forward.

I believe in Jim Webb.

The best has yet to come everyone, so donate, volunteer, and spread the word.

Jim Webb will win because of you.

Yes!! Yes!!! A thousand times YES!!! (Loudoun County Dem - 8/28/2006 4:00:46 PM)
Well put sir...

There are similar stories happening all across the country (Rebecca - 8/28/2006 5:02:47 PM)
I believe this is happening across the country. Its really wonderful. It is true that all of this started with a bunch folks who wouldn't listen to the conventional wisdom. People who believed in something bigger than money and the old way of doing things. Howard Dean said it best:

YOU(WE) HAVE THE POWER!

The Power.. (drmontoya - 8/28/2006 5:31:17 PM)
You do have the power.

It's what really ispired me most about Howard Dean, those words..

It's true, however you feel about Mr. Dean.

Uh...... (kestrel9000 - 8/28/2006 6:31:04 PM)
not to split hairs? But that would be, not MR. Dean, but DR. Dean. Or Governor Dean. Or Dr. Governor Dean.
I'm one of the few who had the privilege of helping him win his home stae in the primaries, after he'd dropped off everywhere else in the wake of the Scream.
Macaca. Heh. Felix's own Dean Scream.
And it's killing him in spite of the fact it's not getting near the play the Doc's scream did in the MSM.
which is a sad commentary, if you ask me. An enthusiastic scream gets more play than a racial slur.
Think it might be a "Democrat vs. Republican" thing?
Just askin'......
