Webb 47.9%, Allen 46.6%!

According to a just-released Wall Street Journal/Zogby poll, Jim Webb is now LEADING George Allen by 1.3 percentage points, 47.9%-46.6%.  According to Zogby polling, Allen had been leading by about 11 points in mid-July, but that has evaporated in what John Zogby calls a "colossal political crackup" by Allen.  Wow.

Now with the MOmentum, it must keep building, more and more.  Wow!

This is some news. We need to keep this momentum going. I am looking forward to the upcoming fundraiser at JMU. This is great.

Didn't know Team America were Webbies!?

It's contagious (loboforestal - 8/27/2006 8:10:09 PM)
I got it too.

Hmm... (Dan - 8/27/2006 7:59:22 PM)
Well,

Hard to believe those numbers, but I guess anything is possible.  I have a feeling no more polls will show Webb down 10.  However, I think we need to keep pushing like we are down 6 or 7, which I think is where we are really at.

SurveyUSA had us down 3 (Lowell - 8/27/2006 8:01:31 PM)
Rasmussen had us down 5.  The polls have been getting better every new one that comes out since Allen's racist comments.  I think this race is, for all practical purposes, tied.

One more point (Lowell - 8/27/2006 8:05:48 PM)
Allen's been hovering in the high 40s for a while now. The big difference is that Webb's been creeping up.  Something tells me that all the free media the past 2 weeks has increased Jim's name recognition #s just a weeeee bit. :)

SUNDAY NIGHT SURPRISE! (Arlington Mike - 8/27/2006 8:03:09 PM)
WOW.  WOW, WOW, WOW!  That's all I can say!

This is huge news - real evidence that Webb's candidacy has legs.  This race is tied (given the MOE), and Webb has shown that has has the ability to win over undecided voters and make this a serious challenge to a man who no longer should have the honor of representing the people of Virginia.

A HUGE poll result.  And it comes at a perfect time.  This will go out tomorrow, beginning of the week, and if Webb-fans are lucky, will dominate another round of news coverage, as the media analyzes the poll result, disects Webb's surge, gets into Allen's issues, etc.  More positive earned media coverage for Webb.

Some interesting other results in here, too.  Ford within three points!  Carter within four points!  Pedersen within four points!  Even with the frustrating news that Talent leads McCaskill in this latest Zogby poll, this doesn't even include Montana, where Burns is looking primed for a fall.

GREAT news for Democrats.

Say it with me (Lowell - 8/27/2006 8:06:40 PM)
"Jim Webb is George Allen's Worst Nightmare!"

Thank you Virginians for choosing Jim Webb on June 13, 2006 (thegools - 8/27/2006 9:31:50 PM)
we chose correctly.

This isn't about GFA (Fluvanna Democrat - 8/27/2006 8:14:58 PM)
This is about Jim Webb.  Mr. Allen made a huge mistake with his "M" comments. But more importantly, Mr.Allen provided a reason for common sense voters to explore Jim Webb.

They obviously like what they see.

Ready, Aim and Fire (Newport News Dem - 8/27/2006 8:16:08 PM)
Get ready for the multi-million dollar ad campaign by Allen that will have Virginians believing Webb is a weak kneed, terrorist codling, tax raising, homo loving flag burner unworthy of being elected dog-catcher.

Not trying to be a downer...just get ready!

Bring it on! (loboforestal - 8/27/2006 8:34:37 PM)
Let's rumble!

Ready, Fire, Aim is what Allen did with his mouth (teacherken - 8/27/2006 8:44:40 PM)
and Wadhams repeated the error, and Allen compounded it with the wink.

I hope and pray they go massively negative -- the press will eat them alive and the money will pour in to Webb.

Tx for a great laugh!  Roadette

Allen just screwed himself by appearing to be.... (Left Wing - 8/27/2006 10:14:55 PM)
...a mean spirited bully.  Negative TV ads will hurt HIM...not Webb.

That very well could be the case (Lowell - 8/27/2006 10:20:28 PM)
But what else does Scott "Hitler Ads" Howell know how to do?  And, even if he DID know how to do anything other than negativity, what positive accomplishments by Allen could they tout?  Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,,,,,,

There are no positives..... (Left Wing - 8/28/2006 9:49:27 AM)
1) The macaca remark was the lowest form of name-calling.  Any name-calling he does now will re-enforce him as a name-caller.  The incident showed him to be a mean bully.  Negative ads will re-enforce that.

2)  He has wedge issues such as stem cells and gay marriage:  The experts on MSM have been saying that since people are suffering financially, gas prices, jobs, etc...they aren't going to vote based on these issues.  Many republicans are for stem-cell research and Webb is covered with gay marriage since Virginia already has a law.

3) Karl Roveish tricks (Craney Island): Allen tricking someone into looking foolish will re-enforce his bully image.

4) Voted with Bush 97% of the time...this requires no explanation.

He's got nothing but a pile of money that he can't use for negative ads and he doesn't have anything postive.  He'll still have negative and positive ads, of course, I just don't think they will help him.

A moment to gloat (Josh - 8/27/2006 8:52:05 PM)
On June 13, I forgot to bring up this comment comment I made back in March, when NGB posted The headline "Allen CRUSHING Miller and Webb". So, I'll take this opportunity, and reserve the right for the second half of this twice-in-a-lifetime gloat again on November 8.

What a difference a word makes...

This race has a long way to go.  Webb may not win, but I agree we should always act as if we are behind....which we very much may be if the Macacacaca thing ever dies away.

Et tu, Jim Gilmore? (Lowell - 8/27/2006 9:12:11 PM)
Former Governor Jim Gilmore watches Allen's swoon, thinks about running for President himself.  Interesting...

And here's where the money is (PM - 8/27/2006 9:46:07 PM)
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
08/22/2006

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee reported raising $4,197,924 and spending $6,840,574 in July, leaving cash-on-hand of $35,091,285 and debts owed of $27,356 as of 7/31.

from Political Money Line

he can't be serious (teacherken - 8/27/2006 9:48:12 PM)
on any of what he offers as future political possibilities:

he has no organization, has not done the visiting to Iowa or NH, has not started to line up the activists in those states or hired political players from his party

at a time when the national Republican party is vulnerable because of financial profligacy and not paying bills, his track record with the deficit he left for Warner would cause him to be savaged by real conservatives

and that latter issue would be the kiss of death for him in any statewide race in Virginia -- except for a primary against George Allen right now?

The arrogance of some people amazes me.  But then, little surprises me about Gilmore.  He was an idiot before and he is an idiot now.

I wonder if he could even win a statewide race of any kind at this point - this state has become a lot more "blue" than it was 9 years ago.

What I find intriguing is... (Lowell - 8/27/2006 9:54:14 PM)
the thought that Gilmore never would have let this slip out if he didn't sense that Allen was in deep caca.

Arizona and Nevada (thegools - 8/27/2006 9:36:02 PM)
Did anyone notice that those two races are within the margin of error.  AZ is 4.1% for Kyl(R), and NV is 3.4% for Ensign(R)!!!!  Those are even closer than the race polled in Missouri.

Better Yet (DukieDem - 8/27/2006 10:22:37 PM)
For whatever reason, they're not polling in Montana and are giving that race to Burns (WTF?). So when you look at the Dem totals, remember that you should add +1 for Tester.

Zogby gives RI to the GOP too (thegools - 8/27/2006 10:38:13 PM)

MARK WARNER NEEDS TO BE ON TV.. (drmontoya - 8/27/2006 10:50:42 PM)
Tomorrow's Here's why:

1) It will increase exposure of Jim Webb, thus adding more support, contributions, etc.

2) It will give an opportunity for Warner to tell the media how HARD he's going to be working to get ANOTHER democrat elected in Virginia.

3) He can tease everyone on his 08 run..

It's a win, win. situation.

Mark Warner needs national recognition (DanG - 8/28/2006 10:55:42 AM)
I think he'll do a commercial or stop by occassionally, but he's got to get his national name rec up if he wants to be Pres of VP.  Kaine, I think, is going to be our go-to guy this year.

This is great news! (summercat - 8/28/2006 5:09:33 AM)
Let's keep the momentum going!

Shaping up like last year (sndeak - 8/28/2006 11:34:50 AM)
It looks like some of the same trends as last years race between Gov. Kaine and Kilgore, just a little earlier.

Huge Republican gap until people started really looking and listening to the candidates.

I asked Gov. Warner Firday about his plans for stumping for Webb. I do hope he spends a little more time in Virginia.

Gov. Warner, How much time do you expect to spend with Jim Webb on the campaign trail between now and November?

His response was...

We're going to events all across Virginia on Labor Day. I also will be hosting a fundraiser for the Webb campaign in September. And I'm anxious to do more events not only for Webb but for Democrats all over the nation. In fact, this week I was in New Hampshire, campaigning for Paul Hodes, then Philadelphia, campaigning for Joe Sestak, Lois Murphy, and Patrick Murphy. I then went to Ohio, campaigning for ted Strickland, and then Illinois, Michigan... you get the point.

Hello Everyone:

Below is some great news I just found out about that "Jim Webb surges past Allen in latest poll."

It looks like George Allen will have to stop running for President to start running a serious Senate campagn for a change!

Please feel free to forward this on to help out Jim Webb and to make George Allen sweat even more than he is now!

Mitch Dworkin

Dear Mitch,

3 Ways to Help!

1.

Contribute

2.

Tell a Friend

3.

Volunteer

Our campaign is surging!

According to an independent Wall Street Journal/Zogby poll released over the weekend, Jim Webb has pulled ahead of Senator George Allen. The poll has Jim leading 47.9% - 46.6% over the incumbent Senator. The WSJ/Zogby poll is the third poll released in the last week that shows our campaign with the momentum in this race and the first to show Jim ahead of George Allen.

As the Wall Street Journal stated, this survey shows a "sharp swing" in favor of Jim Webb. But we can't take anything for granted. We know George Allen isn't going to go down easily, so today, I'm asking you to do three things to help Jim win in November.

1. Make a contribution. Senator Allen continues to enjoy a huge cash advantage over our campaign. Help us close the gap.

2. Tell-a-Friend. Invite your friends to join our campaign and help us grow our grassroots network.

3. Volunteer with our campaign. Join our team as we continue our efforts to personally reach every single voter in Virginia.

You and I always knew that the more Virginians learned about the real George Allen the more they would know he isn't right for Virginia. George Allen has shown his true colors and Virginians don't like what they see. The bottom line: George Allen and his values don't match up with Virginians, and it's time for him to go.

In contrast, Jim's message on foreign and domestic issues has caught on across the Commonwealth. In the past two weeks, Jim Webb has delivered a major address laying out a clear vision for our nation's national security, was honored by the 1st Marine Division Association as "one of the great leaders of the Vietnam generation," and was endorsed by the Virginia AFL-CIO, the Commonwealth's largest labor organization.

The momentum is on our side. We have to do everything in our power to keep it going. Please take a few minutes right now: 1. Make a contribution, 2. Tell-a-Friend to join our campaign, and if you haven't already, 3. Sign up to volunteer with our campaign.

Jim Webb is the natural choice. Jim's message of economic fairness, accountability and national pride resonates with Virginians. Jim will help lead this Commonwealth and our country in a new, positive direction.

Sincerely,

Jessica Vanden Berg
Campaign Manager
Webb for Senate
