The Democratic Party, a Party of Ideas

A common criticism of the Democratic Party is that it does not have a unified position on foreign policy and Iraq.  I say proudly that yes we as a party do not have a unified position on foreign policy and Iraq, because we are a party of many ideas and open discussion.  The Republican Party is the party of one idea, a party in which on one is allowed to provide dissenting opinions, and it is a Party of exclusion.  The Democratic Party is the party of ideas, of open discussion, debate about ideas and listening to diverse opinions; it is a Party of inclusion.  The only way to come up with the best course of action is to openly discuss ideas and to listen to the ideas of a diverse group, and then move on the course of action that is supported by a majority.  If that process sounds familiar, it is, it is called the (small d) democratic process.  Is it true that not all Democrats have the same opinion on Iraq and foreign policy? Yes.  But that means we are more (not less) capable to lead this country.
