DARE WE? A George Allen "kiss float"

So, we all know how much attention the "kiss float" got for Lamont in CT.  It was all over the news, and the dynamic spread like wildfire.  Of course, CT is a very different state than VA, and the voters have different mindsets, of course.  But the national reaction begs to ask the question; dare we, the mighty Webb corp of rag tag rebels, construct a "kiss float" for Allen?
So, first of all, I have no idea how to go about making one.  I know we would need a whole bunch of paper mache, creativity, some money, and a truck always safe and filled with gas.  I'll let you all figure that out in the comments.  ;)

But think of what it could look like!  George Bush and George Allen, both in cowboy boots and hats, with a big 97% sign hanging between them to show the voting record. We could put a noose on a tree on the float, and we could adorn it with confederate flags and of course, pictures of monkeys.  Small appliances would also be great, since George Allen is so obsessed with them.

So, yes, I think it could be effective. I also think it could go the other way in our not so Democratically inclined state.  I would like your honest opinions.

So, what do you think?

I like the idea.. (drmontoya - 8/22/2006 2:44:33 PM)
I just think Virginias would reject it, and grow distaste for Webb.

And this is just the easy pass we can give to dickwad.

Let's build a float of Jim Webb stepping on George Allen with a football in Webb's hand.

Sort of like the VA flag image.. =)

Virginia is still a fairly conservative state (JennyE - 8/22/2006 2:56:44 PM)
And the dynamics in Connecticut are different from what's at play here. An Allen float unfortunately is going to be perceived as a negative attack from Webb no matter how you cut it. Allen has too many defenders in this state (hint:RTD) who will quickly kick up a sympathy story and rally to his side.

A better idea would be to create a Webb float to boost his still lagging name ID. God knows, Webb could use some fresh ideas.

Some Other Possible Floats? (bb10 - 8/22/2006 4:58:58 PM)
Jenny, you may be right about any float being perceived negatively. But what about some of the ideas in this thread on DKos: http://www.dailykos....

I worry about including such things as a Confederate flag or a noose, but would a fairly simple portrayal of combat boots vs. cowboy boots ("Semper fi" vs. "rhinestone cowboy") be bad? What do you think? Or, should we invest our efforts in other things?

I think its best to keep the Webb float positive (JennyE - 8/22/2006 10:47:51 PM)
Stay away from the confederate flag, noose, and such. Oh, the combat boot/cowboy boot is definitely a good idea. The key is to draw a positive distinction for Webb.

An idea for a minimum wage increase, Webb's tax cut for veterans etc. good things.

Cool, thanks. (phriendlyjaime - 8/22/2006 3:09:53 PM)
That was what was striking me - what works in CT will not work in VA.

Floats and Webb Wagons (Silver Fox - 8/22/2006 7:20:05 PM)
The Webb Wagon was a marvelous idea because it's an inventive way to positively promote Jim Webb.  A float?  Well, maybe the combat boots vs (rhinestone) cowboy boots...and that's not a bad image at all...but certainly nothing more negative.  Given the type of campaign people Allen has on board, you can bet we're going to be awash in negative spew from that camp as the campaign heats up.  The better Webb does in the polls, the nastier the Allen campaign is going to get.  I think our best strategy is to keep the high ground, quickly answer all the attacks when they come, but emphasize that people can vote FOR Jim Webb, that he offers a positive change, while they're also voting AGAINST George Allen and his complicity in the disastrous policies the Bush administration is pursuing.

Love the Positive Float Idea (d'moore - 8/23/2006 9:50:56 AM)
Now is the time to portray Webb as the problem solver people want in an elected official. The less partisan the better for the kinds of audiences where a float would be. There are all the Halloween parades on different days and if we started now, we'd have something really cool ready by Oct. People are at parades with their kids so think families and kids. Highlight the ideas that benefit families--leave the war/combat stuff alone for this one. People should understand he has command of more than one issue-the Iraq War. He will THOUGHTFULLY address their kitchen table problems.
