Wednesday Night's Bush Fundraiser for Allen at Home of "The Embedded Lobbyist"

Wednesday evening, George W. Bush will be in Alexandria to raise money for his George "Macaca" Allen.  The event will be at the home of former Republican National Committee chairman, Ed Gillespie.  In June 2003, Public Citizen issued a 25-page report that called Gillespie "The Embedded Lobbyist," and said he "Brings Corporate Loyalties to Top Job in the GOP."  Among others, Gillespie's firm (Quinn, Gillespie & Associates) has lobbied for:

*Enron, which "paid Quinn Gillespie $700,000 in 2001 alone to lobby on the +óGé¼+ôCalifornia energy crisis+óGé¼-¥ and thwart efforts to re-regulate the Western electricity market through price controls."

*PricewaterhouseCoopers, which "paid Quinn Gillespie $1.35 million from 2000 to 2002 to lobby against increased oversight of the accounting industry."  PricewaterhouseCoopers later "paid a $5 million fine to the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2002 for repeated accounting irregularities."

*Daimler Chrysler, which "paid more than $1 million to Quinn Gillespie, which lobbied heavily against any increase in fuel-efficiency standards for gas-guzzling light trucks and SUVs."

*The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which "paid Quinn Gillespie $860,000 to lobby for the so-called Class Action Fairness Act, which would make it easier for companies to prevail in class action lawsuits accusing them of defrauding customers."

And, best of all!

*Tyson Foods, which "paid Quinn Gillespie $440,000 in 2002, in part to downplay federal charges against Tyson for conspiring to smuggle illegal immigrants into the United States to work at its poultry processing plants for lower wages than it paid legal workers."

In conclusion, Public Citizen asserted that "Ed Gillespie+óGé¼Gäós record of advocacy for the interests of Corporate America +óGé¼GÇ£ including some of the country+óGé¼Gäós most infamous corporate wrongdoers +óGé¼GÇ£ raises serious questions about President Bush+óGé¼Gäós decision to appoint Gillespie to lead the Republican Party."

That's the guy who will be hosting a fundraiser for George "Macaca" Allen Wednesday evening.

secret service to close off "fake Virginia Neighborhood" (pvogel - 8/23/2006 9:47:05 AM)
I am pretty sure the secret service will close off the street.
ASnyways, make sure the macaca signs are out. George w. needs to hear our opinion of him, make sure you give him the opinion.

PS. If you live on the street, and are sick of the attention, just have a counter party!!!

Expect Republican Counter-demonstrators (bb10 - 8/23/2006 1:49:57 PM)
The "Hotline on Call" daily briefing (from "National Journal") of today (see here) says that the Republicans have sent out an e-mail calling for their minions to assemble and support the Two Georges. They're meeting at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Memorial Hwy. and Ferry Landing Road.

My best wishes to all the Webb supporters out protesting this afternoon!

conservatives (TurnVirginiaBlue - 8/22/2006 1:36:09 PM)
Now point this one out about Republicans representing the corporate cheap labor lobby (Tyson, corporate exploitation of illegal labor and encouraging erosion of workers rights/want to do nothing about illegal immigration and so on) and some conservatives might just vote Webb.

Seriously, they do know about this and this is the split in the Republican party.

I know everyone wants to classify conservatives as evil racists but some fiscal conservatives are actually raising alarm bells on the middle class and this is their big "ding, ding, ding".

I find it interesting that "punish employers" is given it's token response but Allen can be nailed to the wall via his "guest worker/cheap labor/undermine American workers/avoid employment law" Skil Bill which is another very hated item by fiscal conservatives.

Here's your invitation (Lowell - 8/22/2006 5:19:40 PM)
Right here.

Oh, and thanks to Bush and Allen... (Lowell - 8/23/2006 8:10:57 AM)
...for the traffic nightmare it's going to be when they shut down everything to get W to Allen's house in the middle of rush hour down major commuter routes through "fake" Virginia.

Carpool to protest? (RayH - 8/23/2006 8:25:48 AM)
Anybody want to share a ride to protest this afternoon?

Sign idea:

Real Virginia to Allen:
  GO AWAY!!!

How about (Lowell - 8/23/2006 8:29:50 AM)
"What world do YOU live in, George?"

How about (RayH - 8/23/2006 8:48:58 AM)
Over 2,613
US Killed in Iraq
Too many!

This is his world (Josh - 8/23/2006 8:57:18 AM)
Allen lives right in that same neighborhood.

It's only fitting that George Phony Allen lives in the "fake" Virginia.
