Tell Rep Tom Davis to Denounce George Felix Allen's Racist Comments

I am Andrew Hurst the Democratic nominee for the VA-11 House seat, and am calling on Tom Davis (R-VA) (my opponent) to denounce the racist comments that George Allen (R-VA) recently made.

Senator George Allen made a racist comment towards a Jim Webb volunteer that have been covered extensively.  Twice calling American born and raised S.R. Sidarth a +óGé¼+ômacaca+óGé¼-¥ and saying +óGé¼+ôwelcome to America+óGé¼-¥ to this young man.  You can Watch the video here or read the Washington Post+óGé¼Gäós coverage here.

Sen. Allen's remarks are absolutely inexcusable in this Commonwealth and this nation.  Virginia is, of course, the birthplace of the Bill of Rights, a document that should inspire us all to inclusion, rather than exclusion.  I encourage Congressman Davis to join myself, my fellow Virginians, and fair-minded citizens across this country, in reminding Sen. Allen of our proud past and our bright future.

I have set up a webpage where you can SEND A LETTER TO TOM DAVIS asking him to denounce the derogatory comments by his Republican colleague George Allen.

This is especially important as Tom Davis has had a spotty record on issues related to minority groups, but don+óGé¼Gäót take my word for it, take theirs.

In 2004 Tom Davis received a rating of Zero Percent from the Arab American Institute

In 2005 Tom Davis received a rating of 11 Percent from the Leadership Council on Civil Rights

In 2005 Tom Davis received a rating of 26 Percent from the NAACP

There are four things you can do to help my campaign, please consider them below.

1.  Please go to our SEND A LETTER TO TOM DAVIS website and ask him to denounce the comments George Allen made.

2. Please e-mail five friends and ask them to SEND A LETTER TO TOM DAVIS

3. Go to my website and sign up to volunteer

4. Contribute to my campaign.  I am not taking special interest PAC money, so individual contributions from folks like yourselves are all that more important.

Thank you in advance for your time and support,

Andrew Hurst

Glad this came up (pitin - 8/21/2006 3:31:37 PM)
I just sent Tom an E-mail, and hope other folks do as well.

I have done so too (Ambivalent Mumblings - 8/22/2006 1:44:33 PM)
It's great that we have candidates like Andy Hurst who are willing to stand up for what is right.

One of the main reasons the comments have received is the fact that Sidarth is a long time Virginian who is taking an active part in the political process, something that more young Americans should be doing. Instead of commending Sidarth for taking an interest in the issues, Allen decided to welcome the Fairfax resident to America and call him “macaca.†Those remarks were completely irresponsible and should never have been made -- especially by a member of the US Senate.

This isn't a bad idea (Eric - 8/21/2006 3:40:50 PM)
but I'd rather let Tom have his own say - or lack thereof.  It will speak volumes about who he really is and what he really supports.  If he's politically badgered into it by his constituents then he's just saying it to get re-elected (duh).

If he keeps his mouth shut then that can and should be used against him during the campaign.

If he blasts Allen then he's doing so on his own.  Good points in NOVA but bad for the party.

Tough choice for Tom.  He gets screwed either way and I don't think we should even give him a little wiggle room (i.e. "I did it for my people") on this.

Tom won't do it (pitin - 8/21/2006 3:47:03 PM)
He can't piss off his base for the '08 Senate Primary.  This (I assume) is just another way to have people re-examine Tom, instead of just assuming they know him (I've voted for him for 10 years, why stop now), well let me tell you why...

It's important (Alice Marshall - 8/21/2006 4:27:08 PM)
for Virginia's sake the we call Davis on his silence.

RE: Davis has spoken. (JPTERP - 8/22/2006 12:30:42 AM)
Kojo Nnamdi Show on Friday Davis said he saw the tape and didn't see what the big deal was all about.

Oh yeah... (Eric - 8/22/2006 9:25:41 AM)
I like how Davis says in the coming months people will forget about the racial slur (NOT!) and focus on the important issues of the day like Iraq, health care, and traffic.

Hmmm...  How has Allen had a positive impact in those areas?  It's not like dropping the slur incident will make Allen look good.

Davis donates generously to Allen (Andrea Chamblee - 8/21/2006 4:46:38 PM)
Tom "I am a moderate [snicker]" Davis has donated generously to neoconservative George Allen.  Maybe Davis should ask for it back?

ALLEN, GEORGE  VIA FRIENDS OF GEORGE ALLEN
06/29/2005 5,000.00

ALLEN, GEORGE  VIA FRIENDS OF GEORGE ALLEN
10/29/2004 5,000.00

ALLEN, GEORGE  VIA FRIENDS OF GEORGE ALLEN

Excellent find (pitin - 8/21/2006 5:06:32 PM)
And that's from Davis's PAC (I assume based on the 5K donations) wonder if people know that the money they give to "moderate" Tom is going towards supporting uber-conservative and thinly veiled-racist George Felix Allen Jr. and others.

The Federal Victory PAC gave some money, and Davis's campaign, too (Andrea Chamblee - 8/21/2006 9:14:57 PM)

Nice! (Virginia Centrist - 8/21/2006 6:43:02 PM)
The werkforce is coming back into action in a couple of weeks.

Werkforce? (pitin - 8/21/2006 6:58:38 PM)
Is that a Werkheiser referance, and what are they gonna be up to in a couple of weeks?

Tom Davis votes like a true-red Allen (Andrea Chamblee - 8/21/2006 9:17:04 PM)
Wow -look at this:

The Washington Post Projects lists key votes for Tom Davis Key Votes for Tom Davis and Key votes for George Allen.  Eleven of the Key votes match up (not all because Davis is in the House and Allen is in the Senate).  Davis and Allen's votes are the same for key votes in the 109th Congress (over the last two years) except for the stem cell vote.

There are some caveats.  See www.TomDavisTruth.com

What is surprising about this is that Davis says he is not an Allen Republican but he is!

Andy Hurst kicked ass tonight (Lowell - 8/21/2006 9:38:45 PM)
I had the privilege of watching Andy Hurst interviewed live by Mark Levine on Fairfax County Public Access TV.  Andy did great.  Among other things, he clearly stated that Tom Davis is NOT a "moderate."  In fact, Andy pointed out that Davis votes with George W. Bush 90% of the time.  Not only that, but Tom Davis is a corrupt part of the problem.  In contrast to Davis and all his ethical shenanigans, Andy refuses to take money from PACs, even his own law firm or groups he agrees with, because he so strongly believes that politics should not be driven by money but by ideas.  Great job by Andy tonight, in crystallizing what this campaign's all about.

Anybody that wants to watch this show again, Andy was GREAT!! (Used2Bneutral - 8/21/2006 11:11:07 PM)
The Inside Scoop TV show is Live Monday nights 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Cox Cable 10, Verizon FIOS, and several other cable systems throughout northern Virginia.... And also webcast live over the web.....
We replay these shows
Tuesday afternoons 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM

or you can always listen to just the audio anytime from any show almost immediately after it is recorded live at "http://www.RadioInsi... or download the Pod-cast file.

Mark Levine who hosts the show is amazing at pulling out the issues and getting the tough questions answered.  Andy Hurst did an amazing job on tonight's show and I'm sure next weeks show with Judy Feder will be just as good.

Anybody that either watched/watches the show or listens to it, we would love to hear your comments and suggestions or for requests for DVD copies. The entire crew and production on this show is entirely all volunteers who give their time trying to make a difference and to offer an alternative to the content that normally dominates the airwaves.
