The M-word

I wonder whatever happened to Monika, who never played with us in grade school.  I wonder if she would remember my twin sister and me, and the days after school when we fought back, with our fists, when she hurled racist remarks at us.
By now, everyone knows what the M-word means.  It is one of the words Monika would call us.  It is a very loaded word, used to belittle people of color.  It is used in practically all languages, not just French and Spanish, but Dutch, Portuguese and German as well, to demean people of color.

The M-word is the equivalent of the N-word in the U.S.  And it hurts when someone calls you the M-word.  The opponent's campaign has tried to ignore the significance of what the Senator said.  They even tried to convince us that the Senator didn't know the meaning of the word.  The Senator's mother is French.  He knows what the word means.

Racism still exists in America and across the world.  It's alive and not well, I hope.

from Asia will never be accepted in a George Allen-run world.

Thanks, Ingrid. (Kathy Gerber - 8/17/2006 12:37:27 AM)
And you, too, PM. All this time we've been talking about the need for character and integrity in our leaders.  George Allen has really driven it home as to how badly that need really is.

And when Jim Webb talks about taking care of your people this is exactly what it means in the REAL world.

Some of us are only beginning to get angry. And let's not forget that Republicans view this election day as a unique opportunity to amend bigotry into the Constitution.

Sad (Alicia - 8/17/2006 12:39:36 AM)
I'm glad you fought back then, and am glad you are fighting back now.

Racism is not tolerable - even when the person who utters the remarks thinks the rest of us are too stupid to know what he means.  And then lies to try to cover up.

Maybe you would find Monika on the campaign trail with Allen.  They sound like two peas in a pod.

In that case... (Ingrid - 8/17/2006 7:25:09 AM)
I have to bring my twin sister... :-)
