Bill Clinton
Wow, everything I end up saying recently ends up happening!

And people said on Kos, we couldn't get Bubba!

Reported on TimesDispatch.com today, "Former president to help Webb in Senate campaign"

Story Here

Go Jim Go!

Now both Clinton and Kos, could both be the kingmakers for Jim Webb. I think so.

It's funny now, I think that people are going to realize this is the BIG race of 2006. If the Democrats can beat the GOP in Virginia, someone's in trouble.

And it's not the ass.

UPDATE: I just found a TV ad!

UPDATE #2: The Ad is locked I found it today on You Tube looking for new sidarth stuff, and found it. It appears to be locked, I think it may have been a promo and not for distribution.

However, we should use this for IDEAS you might think are good for Campaign ads.

I have a few:

1) Jim Webb Intro of himself, (or another of his SW VA family talk about Jim from birth)

2) Another of Jim Webb and his son, (or just his son talking about service to country, etc.)

3) Big Name TV Ad, (Bill Clinton, Wes Clark, Tony Zinni, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine) Talking about What they think about Webb)

4) Jim Webb Talking about his Nat Security position, and vision.

5) Jim Webb Talking about where he stands on economics and middle class families.

Those are just 5, I think that Jessica Vanden Berg (fellow visionary) probably have ads like this on the way post-labor day!!!

What do you think good ideas are for TV ads?

The dynamics of this race have changed... (Loudoun County Dem - 8/16/2006 12:44:10 PM)
...Team Webb is going to have a much easier time introducing him to the electorate now. Dick Wad(hams) scorched earth politics will be a much harder sell now.

Pedal to the metal gang, the paying field is leveling as we speak!!!

"paying field" kind of works, too... nice double entendre n/t (JD - 8/16/2006 12:47:35 PM)

It won't work (mkfox - 8/16/2006 2:14:02 PM)
and I can't find it on YouTube. Is something not working?

WOW. (phriendlyjaime - 8/16/2006 5:30:21 PM)
And all anyone on team Allen can say is that Siddarth has a mohawk, and we can't raise $$.

It's over; we won.

Clinton now equals = eh... (pitin - 8/16/2006 5:34:54 PM)
I'm not too impressed with Clinton at the moment, (nor have I really ever been).  He was out stumping for Joe (don't hold that against him), wasn't too effective there.

The use in Clinton is a ginormous dollar fundraiser, and some press coverage.  I can't see someone who was going to vote for Allen switch their vote cause of Bubba.

But I am glad he is here, and can bring in some loot for Webb.

$$$$'s (JPTERP - 8/17/2006 3:58:44 AM)
I agree.  Money is the big thing. And Clinton is a about as close to rockstar status as you'll get with well-to-do donors.

Clinton came to Lieberman's assistance a couple weeks before the primary--and I suspect he did help to push the margins a little closer.

His support won't tilt the balance but it will help tremendously on the cash side and help Jim get his message out.  I also suspect that the animus towards Clinton in Virginia is not what it was in 2000.  It will be a liability with a large part of the electorate--but I doubt that Jim Webb could win those voters over anyway.

Of Course (DukieDem - 8/17/2006 10:18:58 AM)
No one who would vote for Allen is going to switch to Webb based on Clinton. But, Bill will raise $$$ and will get the party united and motivated.

Ad Ideas... (Eric - 8/16/2006 6:23:49 PM)
I've been thinking along a similar line but something the grassroots could put together.  Youtube, flash animations, etc.  Not the official campaign effort - just something created using the talents of us supporters.

Anyone interested in brainstorming on this?  I don't want to do it here where everyone is watching.  Either we could get together over drinks (Meetup style) or do it email/forum/onlinegroup style.

Speak up if you'd like to give it a try and if there's interest we can move on this.

Well. I don't have the talent.. (drmontoya - 8/16/2006 7:22:56 PM)
but.. I got some ideas!

Webb's old Comments about Clinton!!! (thegools - 8/16/2006 8:13:41 PM)
If you go back and read Webb's old (mid-1990's comments on Clinton, you'll see he did not have "good" blood with the former president then.

In the spring (for the primary) Webb "buried the hatched" with Kerry, and got his support.  Now he has really "buried the hatchet" with Clinton.  I'd say it is a good sign.  Reconciliation is devine.

Devine is a Republican hack (teacherken - 8/16/2006 9:13:28 PM)
reconciliation is dIvine as in godlike

Don DEvine is a partisan conservative Republican.

Ad idea (RayH - 8/16/2006 11:04:11 PM)
I think that it would be good to have an ad that's really different than the slick ads that pol's use all the time.

Jim Webb sits at a table and tells the story of his as related in Born Fighting. If I remember correctly, his grandfather lived in Appalachia and got a teaching certificate, but got into trouble because he protested the mistreatment of poor blacks at the local company store. The authorities made sure that he never got a teaching job, and he wound up leading a very hard life. When Jim Webb was Secretary of the Navy, his colleague was a grandson of William Howard Taft, and had a portrait of Taft in his Supreme Court robe hanging over his desk. Jim brought in the old photo of his grandfather.

Focus on the photo of the grandfather.

Back to Jim, saying how he keeps that photo now, to remember where he came from.

>>Differentiates him from Allen/rich dude/phoney
>>Identifies him with southern rural roots
>>Shows him as a strong but humble leader
>>Gives Virginians an idea of where Jim Webb comes from
>>Demonstrates integrity, principles of justice, toughness, pride
>>Illustrates the humanity of a man who is a real leader

I remember that passage from 'Born Fighting' as well... (Loudoun County Dem - 8/16/2006 11:41:36 PM)
Outstanding idea...

Agreed (David Campbell - 8/17/2006 10:42:54 AM)
That's a great idea for an introductory ad.

Me, too comment.. (Kathy Gerber - 8/18/2006 12:47:47 AM)
That was the best passage in the book.  That is what really sold me on Jim Webb.

RE: Vets for Webb (JPTERP - 8/17/2006 4:05:45 AM)
The Kerry ad with his swiftboat comrades wasn't enough to balance out some of the Swiftboat attacks--but I remember those testimonials being very powerful.  The key is to show that Webb is the kind of person that you can trust when everything is on the line.  It would also highlight his leadership.  A born leader.

Combat Swiftboating.. (drmontoya - 8/17/2006 10:33:31 AM)
I think the Ad would work better with a military non-political type like 4 Star-General Tony Zinni, USMC(Ret.)

Because for two reasons.

1) It's easier to attack Kerry and Clark (Political Types)

2) Tony Zinni is very respected with Vets, and in Virginia he teaches at William & Mary.

RE: Ad idea (JPTERP - 8/17/2006 10:18:48 PM)
I think a clip of the Allen video followed by still photos of ordinary Webb supporters would be powerful.  Even during the primary I was impressed by how diverse Webb's support was across several demographic lines.

The key message is ordinary people of all colors and ages support Webb.  Allen could counter with a similar ad; however, I suspect he might have to hire some Hollywood extras.  Webb could get real supporters and real Virginians to do this for free.

Diversity In Webb Camp... (drmontoya - 8/17/2006 10:36:45 PM)
I couldn't agree more, this no joke is one of the most diverse campaigns I've ever seen.

You'd actually think you were in California or Seattle.. but NO, your IN VIRGINIA!!

Young People
Old People
Middle-Aged People
All Different Races
All Different Cultures
All Different Political Backgrounds
All Determined To Send George Allen Home, For Good..

And committed to Electing Jim Webb to the Senate.. for Virginians.
