Mark Warner Congratulates Ned Lamont

Mark Warner congratulates Ned Lamont on his victory in Tuesday's Connecticut Democratic primary and pledges the support of his Forward Together PAC.  Warner also refutes the idiotic Republican charge that Tuesday's vote was somehow for "weakness" in any way.  Instead, Warner calls for a foreign policy that "unites our friends and divides our enemies," instead of the exact opposite that we have seen under BushCheneyAllen.

August 10, 2006

I congratulate Ned Lamont on a great grassroots campaign, and wish him success in November. I and our PAC, Forward Together, will be supporting the Lamont campaign. Connecticut Democrats are mirroring the frustrations most Americans feel with this President+óGé¼Gäós failed foreign policy and mishandled war. I also commend Senator Lieberman for his remarkable record of public service.

Republican wishful thinking notwithstanding, Tuesday+óGé¼Gäós vote was anything but a Democratic party repudiation of a robust and determined defense of this nation+óGé¼Gäós security. To the contrary, it is a call for a return to an American foreign policy that unites our friends and divides our enemies+óGé¼GÇ¥and a call that will inevitably sweep through November+óGé¼Gäós elections.

Good for Mark Warner.  Now, two of my political heroes - Wes Clark and Mark Warner - have each strongly endorsed Ned Lamont for U.S. Senate from Connecticut.  And, according to the Hotline blog, yet ANOTHER favorite of mine - former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina - "will campaign for Lamont in CT on 8/17."  Great stuff.

Great for Mark Warner, but..... (Elaine in Roanoke - 8/11/2006 8:28:50 AM)
Fantastic statement by Mark Warner! Now, one more suggestion for Virginia's most popular Democrat (indeed, the most popular politician)....Campaign with Jim Webb for a couple of days in Southside and Southwest Virginia. Plus, hosting a fund-raiser or two wouldn't hurt Warner's own awesome fund-raising for 2008. Come on, Governor, prove that you have deep clout in Virginia.

I second that suggestion.  Charity begins at home.  Like Kaine's victory, a win for Webb would boost Warner's presidential bid.

Hang on a few weeks folks.... (sndeak - 8/11/2006 11:16:49 AM)
Remember last year at this time? All the questions about when Warner was going to start campaigning for Kaine. He jumped in after Labor Day. School is back in session and more people will start paying attention.

Tim started reigning in Kilgore after Labor Day last year. I expect the same to happen with this race.

Warner helping Lamont will help Jim Webb in the long run.  We need the netroots support Lamont has picked up and I'm assuming Warner understands the situation.
