Jim Webb- why so glum??...

Jim Webb has a great Smile and a Great Laugh!! He is a very personable, friendly, and jovial guy.  People like him! I like him, and I appreciate what he is doing.

So why is it that in so many snapshots (especially with supporters) he often looks so glum or unhappy?

Most Virginia Voters will never meet Mr. Webb.  Their visual image of him will come entirely from pictures they see.  The dour/serious looks I see in so many snapshots do not represent him well.  Still, that is the (wrong) image many will have- a dour, unhappy guy.  People do not "want to have a beer" with someone like that.

Mr. Webb, please smile for those informal snapshots.
People like a friendly face.  If you seem likeable, you've gone a long way towards getting people's votes.  Sometimes that is all it takes.

Remember that refrain from people about BUSH?  "I voted for him because I felt like I could have a beer with him."

The new Webb ads ARE good.

Looking friendly IS VERY IMPORTANT !!!
(That is what people seem to like most about George Allen....and they look no further.)

I recall hearing a man from one of the major news networks recall a day when all of the news about Ronald Reagan was bad.  That night on the news the story was terrible, but the pictures of Reagan were great.  They showed Reagan smiling,  happy, and friendly.  Later that day the White House contacted the network to thank them for the coverage-not for the story, but for the sunny images they showed.  .....Apparently, some viewers only WATCH the news and (shock) don't really listen to the story.

I agree.. (drmontoya - 8/10/2006 2:35:09 PM)
Maybe you should take this issue up with the campaign.

Wow, One of Those (Mark - 8/11/2006 9:10:24 PM)
pictures, the one of Al Weed and Jim Webb, comes directly from a diary of mine. I figured I would provide my own attribution, since I took the picture.

I wonder sometimes if I am just providing a picture storehouse on here. No comments on the diary, but the picture shows up in someone else's.

Go Jim!!!

Thanks for the picture (thegools - 8/12/2006 12:34:33 AM)
It was that picture that inspired me to write.

By the way Lowell those are good pictures of Webb.  They show the guy I talked to looking like he did when I talked to him.

That's the stuff people need to see.

You're Welcome (Mark - 8/12/2006 12:50:23 AM)
I see you on DailyKos all the time. My name there is "Dems2004". See you there.

I would appreciate the attribution in the future. Thanks.

No worries (thegools - 8/12/2006 1:07:10 AM)
...Credit where credit is due.  It was my mistake.  Perhaps I can go back and edit it.

Jim Webb Photos (buzzbolt - 8/11/2006 10:13:55 PM)
Jim Webb is difficult to photograph, especially when he is speaking.  Posing for constant "grip and grin" photos does not come natural to him and he tends to be a little reserved when he sees all the lenses.  You've got to remember that all Spring, a young Republican activist followed Jim everywhere with a video camera literally stuck inches from his face.  I am sure that Lowell will gratefully accept donations of especially good candid photos of Jim to use on the web, you may even ask for a credit line.

I understand... (thegools - 8/12/2006 1:00:38 AM)
what you are saying....and Jim does photograph well in candid photos.  Lowell has more than clarified that.  Thankfully.

It is just that in nearly all the photos that I have seen online, or have been shown privately, where he is posing with one of his beaming supporters, he seems to be wearing that glum look.  Those are the picture that supporters will be showing to family and friends.  ....family and friends who will be voting this fall  ...family and friends who know nothing about Jim Webb  ....Family and friends who may not research the candidates, but who may go to vote in Novemember with little more than that image in their minds regarding Webb.

Webb is a stellar candidate.  I have been with Jim's candidacy since the very beginning. Long before he actually was a candidate.  No one is a bigger champion than I.  I want him to win.  But I also know that many voters are extremely lazy and will vote based on how they "like" a candidate.  To those people, Webb must look  friendly.  ...like a friend or someone you could kick back and have a beer with.

Good pics Lowell.

Is there a gallery of pictures on RK where all of those sort of pictures can be seen in picture form (a la the Gallery at Webb's campaign site?  That would be useful, so we could link to good pictures for our posts.

Good idea. Someone should put this together... (Lowell - 8/12/2006 7:00:56 AM)
on Flickr.  Any volunteers?

Webb is Stellar (seveneasypeaces - 8/12/2006 11:19:28 AM)
I agree, Jim Webb feels deeply the mess we are in and it shows on him.  Look at the pictures of the superficial republican candidates, they are all smiles with no care in the world because they have the rove machine cranking for them and they don't care about the world or Virginia. They see the money, we see the world.

While Jim is running deep we have to make sure things stay light around him.  We'll need that deepness in the Senate!!

By the way, who is that guy who travels with him?  Is he security.  He looks like a martial artist.  Are they good friends.  No one ever mentions him but he is everywhere with Jim.  Nice to see.
