Grassroots At Work

The Jim Webb for US Senate campaign had a great weekend this past week.  Volunteers covered big events and raised visibility, talked to voters, signed up volunteers and registered new voters all over the commonwealth of Virginia using tables, wagons and "Vote Democratic" fans.  We had a big presence with booths at the Albemarle County Fair and Alexandria Irish Festival.  Erich Steinbeck handed out fans at the Fairfax County 4-H Fair in Herndon, we had a great presence at the African American Heritage Festival in Manassas and Susan Mariner, took 2 wagons filled with Jim Webb campaign gear and walked around inside a 35,000 attendee Arts and Crafts festival in Virginia Beach.  All made a big splash and were well received with very little Allen presence to be seen.

We are gearing up for one hell of a grassroots campaign this year.  This 2006 Senate race is up to you.  This is your opportunity to help take back our country from George Bush and his rubber stamp George Allen and stop them from flushing our Democracy down the toilet.  George Allen may have the size and reach on Jim Webb with his money and incumbency; however Allen's feet are stuck in the mud of the Bush administration.  It is up to us "We the People" to get out around Virginia and spread the word.

George Allen is a phony cowboy who ran for office as a moderate but has voted with George Bush's crazy right-wing agenda 96% of the time.  He poses as a pro-lifer but owns stock in the "Morning After" pill.  None of his family is from Virginia or the south but he adopted the darkest side of our southern culture and named his son "Forrest" after one of the founders of the Klu Klux Klan - Nathan Bedford Forrest.  George Allen is a sociopathic bully who abused his siblings and friends and dreamed of becoming a dentist so he could get paid to make people suffer.

"George hoped someday to become a dentist;"..."George said he saw dentistry as a perfect profession getting paid to make people suffer." -- Jennifer Allen (George Allen's sister) from the Book: Fifth Quarter

In stark contrast Jim Webb has been a strong leader all his life who cares about the people around him and has fought on their behalf to make their voices heard. During his first year of law school Jim Webb began representing, pro bono, an African American who had been wrongly convicted of war crimes in Vietnam. Jim fought for six years to clear Sam Green+óGé¼Gäós name, finally winning in 1978, three years after his suicide. Jim also proposed the idea, and led the fight, to include an African American soldier in the statue at the Vietnam War Memorial on the National Mall.  As Secretary of the Navy, Webb opened up more places (billets) for women than any secretary of Navy in history.

Jim Webb opposed the war in Iraq before Howard Dean did.  In a September 2002 Washington Post article Jim Webb explained why there was no "Exit Strategy" in the plan to invade Iraq. As a former US Navy Secretary Webb revealed that Neo-cons in the Pentagon had been planning for 10 years to go back into Iraq and stay for 50 years to transform the region.  Webb pointed out before the war started how arrogant and incompetent these plans were and the danger it posed to our future national security.  Jim Webb has been way ahead of everyone on the war in Iraq and is in sync with the majority of the American public.  It is our job to get this message out in Virginia.

Below are links to farmers markets, fairs and festivals.  Please go through the listings and plan on helping us staff these events and if you see one you would like to take a lead on please contact your regional Jim Webb campaign office in Arlington, Roanoke, Charlottesville, Richmond or Norfolk, Virginia.
