Success Story from this Weekend

I hear there were numerous success stories this weekend by hard-working and dedicated volunteers for Jim Webb.  This is just one example; I've removed last names but besides that have left the report intact.

Florence and I can report a successful first Saturday at the [Arlington Court House] Farmers' Market. The pavilion went up easily (taking it down proved more challenging), and the table was small, but the enthusiasm of the volunteers -- Ken, Ella, Nikki -- was infectious. We passed out lots of Webb, "Vote NO," and Baird material. Ten or so campaign volunteers signed up or took forms home to do so (Florence has the completed forms). Many market shoppers were very positive about the start of the campaign and about our candidates. The new Webb bumper stickers were sought after; we sold them for a dollar or two or more, and collected $102 for the Webb campaign.

Harry did a great job assembling the FM packages and distributing them across northern Virginia.

We were honored that Commissioner of the Revenue Ingrid Morroy stayed at our pavilion for an hour.

Next Saturday, Nikki and Ella will be back, joined by Dot. The table must be larger; I'll find/buy one that fits somehow into my Jeep. Florence and I look forward to seeing the new campaign material ("literature" is a stretch), particularly a grip card that covers all the [Democratic] candidates, buttons/stickers/updated grip cards from the Webb campaign, and Moran material. I'll stop by the ACDC and Webb campaign headquarters on Friday morning to pick up whatever's available.

Cheers,

Richard

Great work, and an example of what everyone can do to help Webb win this election.  Thanks.

My favorite kind of diary.  :)

you could leave in my last name (teacherken - 8/7/2006 11:39:15 AM)
I never hide it.

I agree that it was a positive effort.  And the Republicans were no where to be seen.

You don't need a lot of skill to work a table.

If you got the time, there are events.  If you see an event you think needs to be covered, tell Josh Chernilla or Mary Detweiler in hdqtrs -  volunteer

visibility, visibility, visibility

I am about to leave my local starbucks on Harrison st in Arlington.  My car sits outside with a big Webb sign in the front windshield and a Webb bumper sticker on the rear.  I have been here for 3 hours working on a presentation I will be making on Wednesday -  sitting so everyone who leave walks towards me before they turn to go out of the door or to get a seat on the other side of the room.  And I am wearing my Webb t-shirt (it got washed several times this weekend).

I will also tell you that I encountered someone who should know what s/he is talking about (sorry cannot even give a hint) who gave me reason to believe that there will be some more REALLY GOOD NEWS when it comes to fundraising events.  I am stoked, and I don't even know the details!!!  Oh, and i tend to be a skeptic.

Well, got to get back to my presentation.  No diarying for the next couple days.  Keep on keeping on without me.

the Arlington Joint Campaign starts farmers market visibility around Labor Day. This year, leaders like Richard and Kip and Florence and Kevin and Charley wanted to start two weeks ago! It's a nice problem to have, and it makes the job of Co-Chair for the Joint Campaign a lot easier... Sorry about the tiny table; it was all I could find in my basement!
