Minimum Wage Increase/Estate Tax Repeal

I'm glad that the bill combining minimum wage increases with estate tax repeal went down. It was a strange combo, and we'll try again on our own terms for raising minimum wage.

Both Senators from VA voted NO. I'd like to hear their rationale- especially from Allen.

The United States debt is too high, and this is no time to cut out the taxes from the wealthiest Americans inheritances. Don't those folks with $30 million+ estates have shelters for these estates anyway? Why is this so important to Republicans?

Today we'll get a new unemployment report. Some Wall Street mavens are hoping that the report shows a slight upturn in unemployment, to discourage the Federal Reserve from raising interest rates again. Isn't ironic that some of the same interests that screech about how raising minimum wage would cause "massive layoffs" can also hope for more unemployment?

CORRECTION: Allen and Warner Voted YES (RayH - 8/4/2006 1:30:10 PM)
My heinous error-- I misread the table of votes (both Senators in Vermont voted NO, the Senators in Virginia voted YES).
