nice that he is doing these, but (teacherken - 7/29/2006 9:57:46 AM)
can he get press coverage, and/or the opportunity to do sessions with
- editorial boards
- local radio stations

Is all this being connected with local fundraising efforts as well?

Just wondering.

Wife and I are about to head out for the day.  Will have lunch in Charlottesville, wander the mall for a bit, and then go hiking in Shenandoah for a couple of hours.  Catch you all on the flip side.

I can't speak to all these questions, but... (Lowell - 7/29/2006 10:05:11 AM)
I CAN say, "have a great day!" :)

How Does One Get to Attend One of These? (RayH - 7/29/2006 1:12:07 PM)
If it's by invite only, ok. But if people in the community would like to go, how do they arrange to attend? No word on tickets, contact info or address is listed anywhere.

I'd like to do more than applaud from my computer at home.

Hit Save Too Soon--- (RayH - 7/29/2006 1:35:23 PM)
Sorry to have been sarcastic in my previous post. I was impatient and frustrated.

I have relatives and friends in some of these areas, and would like to know whether they could get in. I'll follow through with Webb HQ later.

Up Close and Personal (seveneasypeaces - 7/29/2006 2:03:18 PM)
I'd like to see this on the front page with the pertinent information.  This is what we need to know.  Where, when, How.  Even if an event isn't open to the public, we can still be a presence outside with signs and cheers.  Let's get the community involved.  It is a morale booster for Jim and everyone!

I second that. (thegools - 7/29/2006 3:16:25 PM)
Where, what time, and how does one attend?

My understanding is that the only public (Lowell - 7/29/2006 3:39:57 PM)
event is the Meet and Greet in Williamsburg.  Besides that, I believe these are being held in peoples' homes.  I will definitely let people in the campaign know that there's broader interest in seeing Jim when he comes through town.  Thanks. - Lowell

Is Webb going to go in front of large audiences any time soon? (thegools - 7/29/2006 4:15:38 PM)
It seems to me he needs to be everywhere, all the time, speaking to large groups of people.  Is there any way that can be done?  Or perhaps we could clone him a few times.

(How does Jim stand on human cloning anyway?)

Not sure about cloning... (Lowell - 7/29/2006 4:49:50 PM)
but Jim is in favor of embryonic stem cell research, does that count? :)

Seriously, I would expect plenty of large-group events this fall.  Stay tuned...right now we're still in the dog days of summer.

Good Sign (RayH - 7/29/2006 6:24:57 PM)
It's a good sign that the people who know Jim Webb are clamoring to see him up in front of crowds. He's in demand!

Thanks, Lowell.

RE: Hampton Roads (JPTERP - 7/30/2006 5:37:58 PM)
Ben's analysis over at NLS supports this--Webb needs to make a concerted play for the black Democratic base--the primary data supports this as well.  Webb was crushed in large sections of Hampton Roads during the primary because he had no presence and no name recognition.

If Webb signals a commitment to the region by travelling and meeting local leaders in August--he can make a serious play in November.  If he waits until after Labor Day he will have wasted 10 valuable post-primary weeks shoring up essential base support.  This defies common sense--especially in light of Allen's cash advantage.  I sincerely hope I'm misreading the situation and that action has been taking place under the radar.  These trips take a few days and cost a few hundred dollars worth of gas money.  The radio and TV ads in the Fall will reinforce the value of person-to-person contact now, but they can't be used as a substitute.

This is one area where outreach to Harris Miller makes a great deal of sense.  Miller made 10 trips to the region during the primary--and his performance in the primary indicates that he had some success and likely has some contacts in place.  I'm confident that Webb can do even better if he makes an appeal to voters directly and in person.

wish we had (teacherken - 7/29/2006 5:49:57 PM)
we got ready to leave and could not find one of our cats.  We looked all over and couod not inf her, looked outside although we didn't think she'd gotten out.

By the time she finally showed up it was too late to do things we had planned to do.

Tomorrow we may be in Charlottesville in the morning, then possibly go down to Mountain Cove Vineyards (Al Weed) and Poplar Forest (Thomas Jefferson), at least we hope to do something like that.

Jim can sit at my kitchen table anytime ! (beachydem - 7/29/2006 7:44:37 PM)
No details on his website or the VBDems :(

Albemarle County Fair (Fluvanna Democrat - 7/30/2006 5:35:51 PM)
I see that Jim will be in Charlottesville on Tuesday.  That happens to be the opening day of the Albemarle County Fair in North Garden.  This is one of the biggest nights of the Fair, and I know the C'ville/Albemarle Dems have a booth every year.

If he has time this would be a great opportunity to meet and greet folks from not only Charlottesville (which is already quite blue), but from Albemarle, Nelson and Fluvanna. The Fair opens at 4 pm, but really doesn't get going until 5:30-6:00.

I would recommend writing the campaign (thegools - 7/30/2006 10:25:11 PM)
& calling them.  The more people you contact the better.  These people are very busy, and by hitting a few of them, you are more likely that someone will get it into the schedule.

It is a great idea.
