Some posters have declared that they will not vote for Webb because he fails some particular single issue.

Webb has one of the best chances in the country for changing a Republican seat into a Democratic one.  Every Senate seat matters.  That+óGé¼Gäós why we must work to elect Democrats even if they don't meet some ideological litmus test.  A Democratic majority in the Senate would change everything: (http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/7/24/91116/3582)

The same would apply to Kellam in the House.

Progressives must continuously push for our highest ideals, while remaining practical about what is achievable in the short term.

Who said that? (drmontoya - 7/25/2006 5:17:40 PM)
I don't think I have read anyone on here that said they wouldn't vote for Webb?

Clarification (David Campbell - 7/27/2006 8:36:55 AM)
I guess I had seen some comments at VBDem that said they would refuse to vote for Kellam because he didn't oppose the gay marriage amendment.  There have been posts on this site suspicious of Webb because of his vocal admiration of Reagan.  My point is that we need a big tent, without litmus tests.

The stakes are high.  Even a conservative Democrat like Lieberman would be one more vote for a Democratic Majority Leader and Democratic committee chairmen.  Progressives are right to support Lamont in the primary, but should support either Democrat in the general election.  Winning is more important than ideological purity, because none of our ideals can be achieved if we lose.
