"Unfair and Unbalanced" in Scott County

I received this letter from a resident of Scott County who is supporting Rex McCarty for Delegate against Terry Kilgore.  Very revealing, I'd say.

I always thought people were exaggerating when they said that Fox News was a one-party, all-Republican-all-the-time, "unfair and unbalanced" news network.  That was until I observed the happenings in Scott County on June 1, the day of Rex McCarty's kickoff rally.

On June 7, Fox News highlighted a comment made by the Democratic Party chairwoman of Scott County: "when you start messing with that heritage and that accent, you?re going to make voters in SWVA mad."  What Fox News didn't mention is that it took this comment completely out of context.  The whole point the County chairwoman was making was not that Tim Kaine was messing with SWVA accents, but that the Kilgore campaign was cynically creating the whole "accentgate" issue specifically in order to try and make SWVA voters mad at Tim Kaine.

The fact is, "Faux News" asked her the question, why did she think the accent thing was being played upon,  in order to get her repsonse.  Then, they misused her words to fit their own (pro-Republican) purposes. That is despicable, and certainly not "fair and balanced!"

By the way, there is a funny story from that same day. The Rex McCarty for Delegate campaign kickoff rally was at 1:30 p.m. on the courthouse steps. At 2:30 p.m., the Kilgore brothers were having a rally for Jerry to formally "endorse" Terry's campaign.  When the "Faux News" people, who were eating in the Mexican restaurant across the road, saw the crowd (over 150 people), they thought the Kilgore rally had begun early. They rushed out to get their cameras and started filming the crowd.  Suddenly, they realized that some people were wearing Kaine stickers, and then it dawned on them - forehead slaps all around -- that they had goofed big time.

Another local said the actual 2:30 p.m. Kilgore rally had 8 people, including Kilgore staffers.  Heh.
