Allen on stem cell research

Standing by "principle" doesn't have the same appeal when you flip-flop.  Even the religious right can tell the difference between a principled position and pandering.  Allen was "very much in support of" embryonic stem cell research in 2003, but now he apparently has discovered a new "principle" that its better to discard embryos than cure diseases.  I guess he just hated disagreeing with his fellow good ole' boy, George W.  Secretary Webb should really stick him with this one.
Does Allen seriously believe that Virginians are so simple-minded?  Is Allen indifferent to the death of his "hero", Ronald Reagan?  Maybe he could stand by his principle, by coming out against organ donations.  That would at least be consistent.  After all, organs, like embryonic stem cells, come from a being that used to be "alive" - and therefore are better off in the trashbin, (along with the organs of the persons who could've been saved), than in another living being.

Or is he claiming "principle" to appease the extreme right-wing?  I think we all know the answer.  We need to make sure that all Virginians do.  What a golden opportunity to expose Allen's hypocrisy, and his willingness to sacrifice human life in order to get votes.  He'd rather more people die from spinal cord injuries, cancers, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, altzheimer's, etc., than ruffle the feathers of the religious right.

The religious right is a force in Virginia, but it pales in comparison to the "sensible center," who truly value life, and know a principle when they see one. If Secretary Webb wants the Reagan democrats, here's the issue to sell them on.

George Allen's Principles? (Bubby - 7/18/2006 4:54:12 PM)
Are to get re-elected.

He'll do anything to get there.

That's why he turns his back on Stem Cell research - it will gain him the disciples of Falwell and Robertson.

What kind of man acts against his own convictions to gain a block of votes?  Nobody, nobody that we need as our Senator. What else is George Allen willing to sell in his effort to be Senator?

who is a staunch advocate of capital punishment and war can ever call themselves "pro-life."
