Two Members of Team Allen to be Supboenaed?

According to the Manchester (NH) Union Leader, it appears that two senior members of the Allen for Senate campaign are facing subpoena.  According to the article:

A judge yesterday allowed state Democratic attorneys to question a former Republican national chairman and other high-ranking GOP officials about an illegal election day 2002 phone-jamming operation.

[...]The targets include former Republican National Chairman Ed Gillespie, former White House political affairs official Alicia Davis and two former Republican Party officials who are now consultants well-known in political circles. The Democrats also want to examine cell phone records of former White House political affairs director Ken Mehlman, the current RNC chairman.

Gillespie, as you might recall, joined Team Allen back in January 2006 as treasurer of Allen's political action committee, the Orwellian named "Good Government for America."

In addition to Gillespie, the Union-Leader reports that Democrats likely will be deposing Chris LaCivita, "a consultant who was [convicted phone-jam conspirator James] Tobin+óGé¼Gäós boss in 2002 at the National Republican Senatorial Committee."  LaCivita is now a top Allen strategist.

Pretty pathetic, but what can you expect from a Senator who had such close ties with another infamous team - "Team Abramoff?"  And let's not even get started on the ethics of Dick Wadhams, specifically his alleged cooperation with male prostitute/phony journalist "Jeff Gannon" in South Dakota's nasty, vicious 2004 U.S. Senate race.  Great team, eh, that "Team Allen?"

In that context this becomes even more interesting.  About the phone jamming, the judge who convicted Tobin said, "It was a direct assault on a free and fair electoral system," and "We'll never know if the wrong people are sitting in government because of this effort."

I just don't understand why Allen wouldn't want to stay as far away as possible from such bungling hoodlums.

Let's get real, Lowell.  Are you trying to distract everyone from what really matters?  I heard you had a traffic ticket once upon a time.

Ahhh...that damn traffic ticket (Lowell - 7/15/2006 10:28:30 AM)
I'll never live it down! :)

I thought it was (Ingrid - 7/15/2006 2:04:14 PM)
a simple parking ticket. You paid up, right?  :-)

Ha, you would know! :) (Lowell - 7/15/2006 5:54:53 PM)

only once???? (teacherken - 7/15/2006 10:41:08 AM)
heck, I had far more than that.

But here's the key -- neither Lowell nor I
- got it/them for driving under the influence
- tried to hide it/them

nor have either of us been picked up for drug possession and then had Daddy pull strings to get us community service so we didn't have an arrest record

and I haven't named names, so if you are drawing conclusion, that shows you know precisely about whom i am writing

One more (seveneasypeaces - 7/16/2006 12:26:41 AM)
Don't forget the guy who was convicted after the 2001 election when Mark Warner won.  He was caught easedropping on a democratic conference all.  Marconi or Marciani or something like that. They cheated and still lost!!

Thanks for reminding me! (Bubby - 7/16/2006 9:49:13 AM)
Gary Russell Thomson,Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV) pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor charge of aiding and abetting the unauthorized publication of a wire communication, and was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and a $2000 fine.

One of his subordinates was Edmund A. Matricardi, III, the Executive Director of the RPV. On March 20 and 21, 2002, a Democratic official sent out an announcement by e-mail and fax to “Democratic General Assembly Members.†It listed a dial-in telephone number and a participation code, which allowed access to a conference call involving members of the Joint Democratic Caucus.

On March 22, 2002, Jane Doe passed on the telephone number and participation code to Matricardi. That afternoon, Matricardi secretly listened to the Democratic conference call for approximately two and one-half hours, recorded it and later reported the contents of the call to others, including Thomson. On March 23, 2002, Matricardi, aided and abetted by Thomson, disclosed the contents of the March 22 intercepted call to a representative of the Attorney General’s Office.

Paul J. McNulty, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia: “Our primary goal in the investigation of this entire matter has been to strengthen the safeguards for the privacy of telecommunications.

From Nixon and his secret recordings, thru Virginia Republican officials, right up to the Bush Administration eavesdropping, the Republicans have a long history of contempt for the 4th Amendment to the Constitution.

Culture Of Corruption.

And felon Ed Matricardi? (Bubby - 7/16/2006 11:03:14 AM)
On April 3,2003 the Virginia State Bar summarily suspended Edmund Arthur Matricardi III's license to practice law. On April 1, Matricardi entered a plea of guilty to charges of interception of a wire communication in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2511 (1)(a).

By then, Matricardi had fled to South Carolina and been hired briefly by the state GOP - they have since re-thought that decision.

And the Virginia Attorney General that Matricardi shared his illegal documents with? Jerry Kilgore.

So much for Allen's "Clean" campaign... (mosquitopest - 7/15/2006 10:28:28 AM)
Wait until those swiftboat ads to start churning out.  After all, FELIX can't run on his record.  How stupid does FELIX think Virginians are?  Only time will tell....

Thanks for posting this info on the integrity of Allen's team.  It's good to know.

Hmmmmm...interesting. (phriendlyjaime - 7/15/2006 10:48:57 AM)
So, another Republican's little secrets are being made public, huh?

GREAT.  BC I am sooooo tired of talking about Clinton and his blowjob.  It's just simply not the answer to everything that is questionable (and there is A LOT) from the R side of the aisle.  Of course, watch Washington Journal just ONE MORNING and you would think Clinton killed Laci Peterson, started the war, and IS Osama Bin Laden dressed in a costume.

What I have seen thus far from the Webb campaign is the flat out REFUSAL to let a Republican (Felix) hide his seriously dirty laundry while making their opponents (the awesome James Webb) somewhat worn yet not quite dirty or smelly laundry out to hang on the clotheline for all to see.  Felix can go ahead and try to swiftboat all he wants; there is more scandal to come, and there will be debates where he will come away embarassed, looking like he just got the rug pulled out from under him.  The rug called "Senator", that is.  I have faith in the Webb campaign to fight hard and strong; I also have faith that Felix and his "team" will continue to screw up, big time.

COMMENT HIDDEN (I.Publius - 7/15/2006 3:30:08 PM)

Oh, I'm sorry. (thaddaeus toad - 7/15/2006 4:38:06 PM)
I forgot that the Democratic party was supposed to bend over and take it whenever the Republican party does something wrong.  It completely slipped my mind that the Republican party could do no wrong bc 34% of the country prays and hates more and than the rest of the working public.

My bad.

Oh, but while you're at it; anything to contribute besides talking points from Fox news?  I haven't heard the word "laughable" yet.  And what about freedom ain't free?  Clinton?  Anything to tie this in with Bill Clinton?

I'll wait.

It always about Bill (Nichole - 7/15/2006 5:11:56 PM)
I adore you ;)

Who needs a settlement? (Bubby - 7/16/2006 10:05:57 AM)
This suit stands on top of a pile of criminal convictions and seeks the involved operatives within the Bush Administration. Corrupt Republican Party officials make effective examples of the Culture of Corruption during a time of balloting.  But you knew that, so quit your whinning.

OK, champ, (I.Publius - 7/17/2006 8:37:27 AM)
Just as soon as you stop your whining.

I do look forward to your post when this suit gets dismissed.  You WILL be submitting a retraction in that event, right?

This is getting funny! (phriendlyjaime - 7/17/2006 11:41:01 AM)
I swear, I can just about hear the foam your mouth is making...

I think this story merits more publicity. (RayH - 7/17/2006 10:50:08 PM)
