George Allen: A Robertsonian Republican

Recently, I highlighted Allen defending one of Pat Robertson's most outrageous statements (via TPM). Which one of Robertson's crazy statements?  This one:
10:50:15 GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS (OC)
But, sir, let me just stop you there. How can you say that these judges are a more serious threat than Islamic terrorists who slammed into the World Trade Center?

10:50:23 PAT ROBERTSON
It depends on how you look at culture. If you look over the course of a hundred years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that's held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings.

So, defending a statement this bad - there has to be a reason ... right?

Well, can you be surprised that Allen would cast aside common decency to defend one of his top campaign donors?  From the FEC:

Speaking at Robertson's college graduation.  Defending his outrageous comments.  Taking his campaign contributions.  George Allen is a true Robertsonian Republican.

George Allen proved... (Lowell - 7/28/2006 10:52:24 AM)
with his stem cell vote that he's pandering to the hard right wing of the party.  Like Pat Robertson, George Allen is FAR outside the mainstream of the Republican Party, let alone the country as a whole.  Jim Webb, in contrast, is almost exactly in the American mainstream, not to mention that he's an American Hero.  In other words, the choice for 80% of us this November is about as obvious as they come - Jim Webb the democrat (small "d") vs. George Allen the Theocrat.
